Hey girls! I haven’t posted here much and just started commenting. I have my dress and it’s time to get shoes before we begin altering. I am going to have heels for the ceremony and flats for the receptation.
For the receptation I am going with:
But I can’t decide on my heels. My future mother in law thinks I should go with white. Our colors are silver and lilac. My bridesmaids are wearing nude heels.
White – I may never wear them again.
Silver – a better chance of wearing them again.
Lilac – maybe – not sure if I would wear them again.
Nude – out of all of them I could wear again but that seems so blah!
I’m really leaning towards white or silver but I would love to have any opinions and hear any regrets.
Also – since I’m changing shoes do you have any advice on if we should trim the dress for the heels or between the heels and flats? Sorry if that’s a stupid question, just covering my bases!
This is my dress. Mine is actually all ivory but the website only has the gold middle shown.

I like the idea of coloured shoes because the bride ofte looks just so ‘white’ it gives a nice pop of colour peeking out from under the dress.
Lilac is such a pretty colour too and you could probably pair them with jeans or a cute summer dress at a later date.

I think white shoes are kinda 80s. But silver sounds so lovely, and yes, you can rewear them again.

It’s going to be really hard to switch heel heights without it affecting your dress. Since your dress has a scalloped hemline, it probably can’t be hemmed at all and will be ordered at the exact length you need it. So you’re either choosing for it to be too short with the heels or too long (read “you’ll trip a lot”) with the flats.
I would opt for a kitten heel or flats or something that is comfortable that you can wear all night long. Color is second to comfort/practicality.

no one is really going to see your shoes under your dress. wear shoes that you can wear again.

I would choose either ivory silk shoes with tons of Swarovski crystals on them or sparkly silver sandals for that dress. I definitely would not choose white, because your dress is ivory.
You’ll defintely get more wear out of sparkly silver sandals.

@Christy42213: Really????? The bridal shop swore they could hem it. They never measured my height at all. Oh dear…it’s way to long for flats or even heels I could safely walk in. I’m 5′ 3″ and a good six inches need to be hemmed off.
@wanabeabee: Thank you! Lilac would make a great punch color.
@LDay1983: That’s so true! Hmm…something to consider!
@atlbride2013: That’s so true and though I was leaning towards it I can’t realy find a pair I like that doesn’t look old fashion.

@Milo22: Well if the bridal shop said they could hem it, then they probably can. I was just going off the picture and my past experience with a scalloped hem dress where I was told it couldn’t be hemmed. Still, you can’t change the hem between the ceremony and the reception. I’d pick one shoe and wear it all night.

@Milo22: You can hem this style of dress by taking it up at the waist line. I’d bet there is a seam under that detail ‘belt’.
I think you should go with purple or silver shoes.
I wore 4″ silver heels during ceremony and 3″ purple canvas wedges for reception which I’d worn previously many many times. We altered to the wedge hight and just had my heels peeking out at the ceremony. Was totally fine. You’ll be carrying your dress as you walk, anyways. (Or at least I did because I was surrounded by ruffles..)
I would *not* recommend wearing the heels all day! After a few hours of carrying the weight of your dress, your feet are going to be TIRED. I wore my 3″ wedges for reception because they are more comfortable to me than any flats I own. Support is key.

@Christy42213: Ha! Just a slight panic – you know when you have those moments?
@scarlet_letter: Yeah – hence the flats as well. I will try and stick with the heels as long as possible but I know that’s not realistic. Switching from 4 to 3 inch heels may be an opinion since I haven’t gotten the flats yet.
Thanks ladies! I think white and nude are definitly out.

So thank you ladies! I got my shoes and here’s what I ended up with:
Silver flats for later in the evening
And my heels!
