- Wedding: April 2014
So we are going away to get married in a private ceremony. I’ve always thought I’d prefer the private ceremony if I had to choose, and luckily my boyfriend feels the same way. For both financial reasons and the fact that our families are scattered all over the country, it just seemed like too much to pull off.
We are going to have casual parties in our respective home towns – my family’s will be at my aunts house and then my boyfriend’s/fiance’s will be wherever his mom decides works best. Then we are hosting a third cocktail party for friends (he plays rugby so we have a LOT of people to entertain that way).
My aunt really wants to throw me a shower. I don’t want gifts and i’d hate to be the center of attention as well. BUT i went to my boyfriends hometown for christmas right after we got engaged, and were getting married in April, so it would be nice to have one get together with my fam before then.
i was thinking there might be a fun alternative to gifts?? I saw the one about having everyone bring their favorite recipe on a predetermined card size to all be put into a book. We love to cook so that might be cool.
Are there any other ideas? I will have to float them by my aunt – she just keeps insisting I register somewhere, and I really don’t want to. I feel like if I can give her a few alternative ideas, that will satisfy her.
We are going to Napa for our private ceremony, if that helps.
