I think your poll is missing an option, but I found the one I went to helpful. We ended up booking a DJ and a photobooth, and it was nice to see their equipment in person.

However, if you already have everything taken care of I probably wouldn’t bother. I personally hate being hounded by sales people so it wasn’t exactly a fun experience. I’m glad I went but I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t need anything!

I have not gone to a show for my own wedding, but I have been to one with a friend for their wedding.  It seemed most helpful for brides who are just starting to plan and need to research their options.  For someone who is further along in planning, I don’t think it would be as useful.  That’s probably why I never ended up going to one for my wedding.  I have a long engagement and by the time I actually started booking vendors, I already had a very good idea of what I wanted and needed.

I went to a show after I had a lot booked and I found it… annoying.  Everyone is trying for your attention, and you have to either tell a lot of people no, or you have to listen to everyone’s ten minute spiel.

And then the e-mails.  I went to two shows and am still getting new e-mails from EVERY vender at the show.  I’m so glad I set up a specialty email inbox to give out that I will never use again after the wedding.

@lanibug:   I think it was more of the area I’m in, but they were useless and mostly very low quality vendors begging for business. I met a photographer that tried to sell me on his business by showing me a brides pores and telling me how far away he was standing when he took the picture, as if that was something I cared about or wanted on my wedding day.  Then he showed me a picture he took of a creek and it literally had trash in it..

However, I did find my cake baker!  She was very out of place with the rest of the vendors there, and she probably felt silly, or made all of them feel silly.

@lanibug:  I wouldn’t bother. We went to 2 local ones and debated about going to a national one.

First one was completely useless for us, second was at our venue so was helpful to speak to the hotels usual DJ and and chair cover lady.

We decided there was no point going to the national one, tickets weren’t cheap and we had everything sorted by then and we didn’t find them that interesting.

I think the internet is probably more useful for ideas and vendors. You can only see what vendors want you to see at the shows.
