What about Iowa City is bringing you there (other than it being neutral)? There are all sorts of parks available and many churches. I'm sure if you looked on campus (at the University of Iowa) you'd be able to find gorgeous locations!

I graduated from the University of Iowa in May, but moved out of state. As we spent most of our relationship in Iowa City it seemed like the obvious choice. However, neither of us ever attended a church in Iowa City (my fiance did not go to Iowa). Originally my fiance wanted to get married in a Lutheran church, but it is proving difficult to find one available that suits our needs. So we are having to look at other options
Oops I accidentally posted before I was done typing. There is an old church outside of Iowa City near sloan that is no longer undre an denomination so it is availble for rent to anyone, you bring in your own officiant, priest, etc. Its very pretty and since its no longer an active church you do not have to be any particulair religion to use it. I can't think of the name though. I went to a friend's wedding there a couple years ago and it was really nice. If you are interested and cannot not find any info PM me and I will try to find out the name for you.
NATIVE IOWA CITIAN HERE!!!!!! I would love to be of help in any way! What type of church are you looking at? What type of reception site do you want? Do you need help with vendors too? I was born and raised in Iowa City, and I am actually planning my wedding in Des Moines (where my fiance is from) however, my sister is planning her wedding in Iowa City for this year so I know just about everything about Iowa City vendors, churches, etc!!!
Ask away!!!
So we actually found a church this weekend when we went back to Iowa. It is the Congregational United Church of Christ. It is right on campus, next to Phillips Hall and kitty corner to the business building. The pastor was really nice so I am actually pretty pumped. Now I can actually start planning other things.
I am still open to any suggestions you may have for a dj, photographer, etc. because we don't have any of that figured out yet.
We do already have a reception site, the Holiday Inn on 1st Avenue in Coralville.
Post away : )
And i almost forgot... I've got three friends planning Des Moines weddings for this summer, so if you need anything I might be able to help you too.
I know a great photographer by the name of Samantha Bender. She does great work and has done a friend of mine's wedding. A good place to do cakes through is Yummy's ( I am not totally sure where they moved to, because their original place was damaged when the flood came through this summer). Someone not to use-My sister was going to use Rock and Thunder for a DJ but then went a wedding where they were completely unprofessional, showed up in jeans when they said they would wear a suit and played the wrong music when the wedding party and bride and groom entered and danced. So needless to say don't use them.
Hopefully some of those helped! I will keep thinking and get back to you!
Wow! I just had to comment because I can't believe I found IC people on here! I lived there most of my life but decided not to get married there since most of my family and friends have moved elsewhere anyway.
As far as wedding stuff goes: I agree with Miss Bliss - A friend of mine used Samantha Bender as a photographer for her wedding last year. Pictures are great. And she raves about her. Her DJ was also really good I thought. Don't know his name, but if you are interested I can probably find out.
Good luck!
I'm an Iowa City bride and am happy to help in any way. :) Yummy's has the best cakes, and I'm using Every Bloomin' Thing for our flowers. Todd Adamson will (probably) do our photography. Let me know if you need anything else and happy planning!
Hello!! Glad you've got the site worked out kwelter - there are so many wonderful options in IC i'm glad something worked!
Our wedding is planned for next Aug at Old Brick - I'm really excited because it's not a church any longer but still feels like one, meaning we get to have my sister in law preside over the ceremony :)
I'm using Amy Rose http://amyrosephotography.com/main.php who i just LOVE. She's super awesome, and does an amazing job with capturing moments. Frequently people don't see her snapping away, so her photos feel very authentic and not as staged as they can sometimes seem.
My sister in law used a wonderful flower place outside of town - she said her selection is unmatched in the area (she provides ararngmeents for lots of things and has crazy amazing connections). I'm at work at the moment and don't have her name but message me if anyone would like more information!
As far as vendors go - I think we're going to go with sushi from Oyama or perhaps Red Avacado. We want to have a more hours de'voures type thing so lots of finger foods!! (plus we love oyama sushi. omg.)
good luck preparing!! missbeats

Does anyone have any ideas for a site for a wedding service in Iowa City? My fiance and I are really struggling with this. Neither of us are actually from Iowa City, but that is where we are having the wedding... neutral site. Finding a church or alternative site for the wedding service is proving to be difficult. Any ideas?
