I am trying to find songs to play throughout the wedding and have a hard time making up my mind. I am not into cliche wedding songs however, I do not want to get too indie on my family. Are there any good first dance, cake cutting, etc songs that you recommend that have not been overused.
First dance song possiblities:
You and Me- Penny and the Quarters
sweet dispostion- Ellie Goulding Cover
All songs are very different but this just goes to show you that I am open to recommendations.
I am a little sad that this song has gained poupularity recently but our first dance will be to the Lumineers Ho Hey. Whenever we hear it we just can’t stop smiling.
We are also walking down the isle to something a little diffrent, Married Life from the Pixar movie UP.
We have lots of Soundtrack instrumentals as ambient music during dinner, we are big nerds so we have selections from Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and even Star wars. I like that they are little nods to our nerdiness but others wont even know..they just sounds like classical arrangments!
@Tmcg77: Dad and I danced to “When You Come Back Down” by Nickle Creek – it’s appropriate and I haven’t heard it in a wedding. I like your first dance songs 🙂 I wouldn’t sweat the cake-cutting song – it’s a very short clip used. I like the Beatles song “When I’m 64” for cake cuttings, but perhaps it’s overused.
We had a line on the RSVP card where people could write in song requests – we got a lot of classic/jazz requests (Sinatra, Bobby Darrin, etc.) so we used those, and our indie faves, for cocktail hour and over dinner time.
We’ve only officially picked two songs and one is pretty cliche (George Strait – I cross my heart for our first dance) but the recessional song is going to be Barry Polisar – All I Want is You. This was one of those things that was decided in my head long before I ever met FH, haha. I just love it, it’s so upbeat and happy. 🙂
