i just picked my earrings... they're going to be large semi-precious rubies with white topaz stones surround them on top, and a cluster of white topaz and one small ruby on the lobe. they're pretty large, like 3 1/4 inches but i'm 5'8 and my dress is a big ball gown... the kate hudson dress from bride wars. i can't decide if i should do a tiara???? i always disliked them, but i feel like it may fit the whole royal look i'm going for with the ruby earrings and the big ball gown.

    thoughts?????

the first pic is to show you what the earrings looked like originally, and the second pic is to give you an idea of how it will be customized to be made bigger... it's kind of hard to tell but my description above basically says it.

I would say don't. Not only do they look dated in most cases, but with your earrings and the princess dress it would be overkill. I think you will look regal enough without one. Very pretty earrings btw. Maybe do a really elegant updo for your hair and use a bejeweled pin or comb? Something like these: http://www.advantagebridal.com/wedaybrhapi.html

A tiara would be overkill.  Even if Kate Middleton did it, she'd do it because it was expected.  If you were Kate Middleton and wore those with a tiara because it was expected, I'd still think it was overkill.

i agree, overkill. you could always do a headband w/ crystals on it maybe. but a tiara would be too much.

you know how they say for makeup: intense eyes or intense lips, not both?

    Exact same thing.

I'd skip the tiara as well.  Overkill & dated.  I've never cared for the look, personally.

I love a tiara - but those earrings are AH-Mazing and don't deserve to share the spotlight!

Skip the tiara and instead maybe do jewelled bobby pins for a more subtle sparkle to allow the earring (and your face!) to have the focus.

don't do it. the tiara and earrings together will totally overpower the dress.

No tiara. I think having those large earring plus the tiara will be too much. If you still want some bling in your hair maybe consider adding a small sparkly clip or similar smaller accessory.

I knew I was totally over the tiara thing when Paula Abdul wore one to some event, gah!

    But, it's personal taste.

There are a lot of non veil headpieces that are just gorgeous, if you want to go that route.

Your wedding day is the only day you can get away with wearing a tiara, so I say don't worry about whether it's overkill or not. Go for it if that's the look you want.

One thing I did for my wedding was bring several different options for my hair pieces, and then I decided on the day of my wedding which one felt right.

Tiaras are for pageant winners. I don't mind jeweled head-bands or clips but full on tiaras or crowns seem too "princessy" for women who are mature enough to make the decision to get married, leave them to the 16-yr olds and pageant queens.

Choose one or the other: big earrings or tiara.

    Both is too much.

Tiaras make me think of quinceañeras. Even then, I don't like them. I say skip it, and go with PPs' suggestions for sparkly hair accessories...but keep those smaller, since you have those kickass earrings.

I agree with all the others. Tiara's are bad regardless of the earings you are planning to wear. Those are fantastic however.
