I got just engaged and I’m emailing vendors – photography, floral, catering, etc. I was wondering if you guys could give me recommendations of who to contact. The wedding is September 25th and in Ellicott City, MD. Thanks!

Congrats, if you have a budget in mind that will help me out….I don’t need a specific number just narrow it down to your vision and within the three categories:
1. Simple yet memorable (SYM)
2. Keep them talking (KTT)
3. Must have it! (MHI)
How many guests are you planning on having? I love to have fun, don’t mind my 1.2.3 breakdown.

Flowers by Judy does really nice work for reasonable prices. DaVinci’s Flowers down in Silver Spring also does good work. My sister used Mark Hamilton photography (based in Annapolis) and we’re meeting with Square Root of Red from DC next week.
We’ve met with Diyonisus Catering and they have really good food, but it’s a little pricy compared to some of the bigger names. Although I wouldn’t bother with Classic unles you have a fairly large budget. I’ve heard bad things about Wessel’s Florists.
Try Sweet for cake – my cousin used them and it was amazing!
If you are looking for dresses, I really like the Columbia Bridal Boutique – reasonable prices, etc.

Also check out Forever-Yesterday photography. Jenni is based in Linthicum and does AMAZING work at a GREAT price! Good luck and CONGRATS!

We’ve actually been on a roll with setting up meetings and emailing people!
We’ve booked our venue – Howard County Conservancy in Woodstock, MD
Met with 3 photographers – Borrow Blue Photographer, Procopio Photography and Spence Photography. We have a feeling that we know who we want to book, but have one more meeting on Wednesday with Merkle Photography. Hopefully we should know who we’re booking right after that meeting.
We’ve emailed caterers – Atlantic Catering, MyThyme Catering and Dionysus Kitchen. We’ve only heard back from Atlantic, which is a little disappointing but OK since 2 of our friends have used them in the past and we know their food is awesome.
We also have 2 meetings set up with florists – Local Color Flowers and Flowers and Fancies.
Then a meeting with a DJ – Bill Bowen, who was also recommended by a friend.
Has anyone used the above?

We’re working with Local Color Flowers! Our wedding isn’t until April – I’m really looking forward to it. So far, Ellen has been absolutely fantastic.

I’m meeting with her on Monday. I am really excited, especially since we’re getting married at a Nature Conservancy. It kind of works. Did you find her prices to be comparable to other florists?
@LadyGoodman – We actually didn’t meet with any other florists, since we loved her (and her philosophy) so much. Her prices seem very reasonable, though (feel free to PM me if you want more details). Which Nature Conservancy are you getting married at? We’re getting married at Irvine Nature Center, so we were so excited to have found her!

We used fantastic flowers, sweet bakery and evan reitmeyer of mydeejay.com – loved them all! I would NEVER suggest the caterer we used, but she isn’t listed of the ones you mentioned. Diyonisus catering *sort of* tried to bribe us… so, I’m still not sure how to feel about them. In retrospect, I would have rather pursued Diyonisis (despite the bribe) that kept the caterer we stayed with. ah hindsight.
I wrote a post about the diyonisus situation – http://www.weddingbee.com/2009/01/15/bribe-the-bride/

I LOVE my photog. Doug Phillips Photography. He is on the Eastern Shore (Ocean City), but will be shooting our DC wedding. Great guy, hysterical and his photos knock my socks off every time I see a new post on his site. Couldn’t be happier!
