Wedding venue, around the corner or through the woods?

I'm trying to decide if I want a wedding venue that is around the corner from our house or in our city but some distance away.  I'm not referring to a destination wedding, but how close is too close for the venue.   For example, do I want to pass our wedding venue every day for the rest of my life as I trudge to the grocery store to pick up some milk?  This would happen if it was around the corner.  On the other hand, it would be super convenient on the day of the wedding to have the location so close to our house.   Has anyone else thought about this or weighed the pros/cons?

My venue is around the corner from my house.  I really never saw any cons with having it there, but then I would love to have the wedding at my house if I could fit all my guests there.  I guess I like the very local feel of it - I'm trying to find a florist shop, salon and bakery that are really close too.  It's nice to minimize driving (and gas usage), it'll make meetings and deliveries easy, and if I forget anything on the big day, no problem.

Are you down to two options that you like equally? Go with the place you like more, regardless of where it is! And is it bad to pass the venue everyday? I think I would love that, it would remind me of one of the best days of my life!

We are getting married at our country club, which means that we will be having lunch and dinner and drinks every month in the room where we got married, and I think it's great!  We also go there every couple of weeks for a "planning lunch."  The staff all come ask how things are going, we have the florist or the photographer or the musicians meet us there to talk about set-ups, the event coordinator comes in with table linens...  We have known a lot of the staff for a long time, and they are really excited for us, and to be a part of the big day.  I suppose that if it was just a hotel ballroom, and we would in fact just be driving by it, it would feel differently, but I think it's great to be married in a place that we go all the time and really love!  We are also spending our wedding weekend in a fabulous old hotel just 45 minutes from where we live, for kind of the same reason - because we can go there every year on our anniversary, or even just any old weekend we want to do something special.  I think it will also be great to be able to skip off to re-enact the wedding night whenever we want!

being close to your house can eliminate hotel charges for a room for you and your maids the night before / day of getting ready. you could just get ready at home. if you want the glam feel of getting ready somewhere else, though, that's something to consider.

i think it would be neat to see your wedding venue every day from then on. i think passing it would put a smile on my face as i go about my errands, ya know?

another factor to consider is the convenience for guests. how would parking be at either place? would you want everyone to be close to your house? this could be an excuse to have guests over the morning after for brunch or something. would you rather seperate your wedding day and guests from home?

Thanks for your comments!  It looks like most of you think that having it nearby is actually a pretty good idea - so I will go with the consensus on this one!
