Hi and Congratulations!
I have a couple ideas for you.
One would be to do a Valley of Fire ceremony - it's absolutely gorgeous there, you're outside of "Vegas" and in nature. And, the weather in October should be perfect there! So, I am with Chapel of the Flowers and we could help you plan this. It's fairly inexpensive and you may be able to afford additional limos, etc. to go with it from place to place.
For your reception, I recommend then traveling back to town and checking out Canaletto inside Venetian. It's in St. Mark's Square and they have private rooms upstairs that overlook the whole area. It's pretty cool and totally different - I didn't even know rooms like that existed until we partnered with them! So, those two combined are what I image are within your budget, not your typical Vegas wedding, and what could assist you with in planning. I know you don't want a chapel, and this wouldn't even have you here for your wedding, but it's super helpful as you would get a wedding planner that would assist you in all your planning and that itself is worth any investment!
Also, our chapels are vert traditional and elegant in feeling and not what most expect when they think of a Vegas wedding chapel - even I was shocked (in a good way) when I first came here and I'm born and raised in Vegas. The chapel ceremony can still be absolutely beautiful, with no Elvis in sight, and totally affordable so you can spend more money on your reception and photography.
The other thought I have, which has nothing to do with us, is that I saw Tahiti Village does weddings at their pool, which looks like a mini-ocean. That seemed different and fun, but I don't know their prices and haven't heard much about weddings there to know if they're good to work with or not.
Hope that helps and best of luck!

I feel your pain. I've been looking for a non-Vegas wedding place/idea as well. Still haven't found "the one" yet. But I did find this: http://www.sceniclasvegasweddings.com/
I can't help you with the reception venue as we're planning to elope - so it will be just the 2 of us and I expect we'll go out to a fabulous dinner to celebrate.

So we are going to have a wedding in Vegas ('cause its where we live) and I have been searching and searching for a place in Vegas to get married that isnt Vegas, if you know what I mean. We are not religious, so no churches. I dont want the banquet hall carpet in a generic room for the reception. Please god no chapels with Elvis...
Its a small wedding of 35-50 people. I want to DIY with a lot, and its going to be a dessert reception. Our budget is $5000.
I'm literally going to cry. I found the perfect Vacation Home in Lake Tahoe, but all of them dont allow weddings inside, only outside...Ugh, no thanks for October.
I'm completely discouraged...Anyone know of anywhere in Las Vegas/Henderson area that isnt too expenisve, not a chapel, and not in a casino.
