I use project wedding, but I think you can use the knot, and my wedding.

Just look on each one for which one has the features you would like. Good luck!

I created a blog!  I used Blogger -- and followed some tips from posts by Mrs. Corn and Mrs. Lovebug.  I'm happy that it'll be something I can carry on past the wedding.  :-)

My fiance and I do have our own website with our names as the domain if you want to check it out; it's www.danandrikki.com. We made it through Google - here is the link - http://www.google.com/apps/intl/en/business/domain.html. It's $10 for the domain name for a year. It took a little playing around to figure out, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy. If you need any help or have any questions about it, feel free to PM me. :) Good luck.

I'm using Brides.com, which is free and very easy to use.  Right now it's pretty limited in what you can do with it, as far as backgrounds, layouts, etc.  You are pretty much stuck with their template.  But supposedly they are relaunching a bunch of new features in February.

You can create your site on the knot or my wedding, etc. Then go to a site that sells domain names such as www.godaddy.com. Register for the name you want, such as www.janeandbob.com

I just did this last week and the cost for registering the domain name of my choice was only $7.19 for a full year. Once registered I couldn't figure out how to link my created site to my new URL. So I contact godaddy tech support by eamil and in less than 24 hrs. they sent me super-easy step-by-step directions - which took about a minute to do! It's great - now I have the website I want with the URL I want.

I used weddingwindow.com and am very happy with it.  It was easy to set up.  I paid an additional fee and got to use my own domain name, which is just my and my fiance's names dot com.

I also use Wedding Window and LOVE it. They give you a million templates to choose from, some with flash animations, tons of beautiful pictures, your own domain, and you can upload your own photos, music, and videos, create a blog and have subsribers to your blog. There's a "site wizard" to make sure everyone's site is beautifully designed, and I'm sure there are a ton of other awesome features but you'll have to check their website for the low-down.

I think we paid $100 or so for the 18-month hosting term. The domain is extra as Jenny Bee mentioned ($15 per year) but this is a first rate wedding website. Check mine out. They came highly reccommended by a friend and I haven't had any problems with them. I also got a year's subscription to Martha Stewart Weddings which, unfortunately, I already had!

If you have a Mac I found that their program for creating websites was easy to use and gave me the flexibility to do the designs I wanted. I also have a MobileMe account with Apple which allowed for hosting and bought our own url from godaddy and had it redirected. While the cost for MobileMe was $99 a year I also get great use out of it since it syncs my data with my Iphone and allows us to share photos with friends and family.

I ditto msgirard. We also set up our website through FI's Mac and have mobileme. FI is so addicted to his iphone that he wanted the website to be iphone enabled. good grief! i was more interested in communicating important info about the wedding, sharing some things about us, and allowing guests to leave a comment. We haven't set that last bit up yet, but it's in the works. We have one page that let's us link to some of our photo albums, which we are also sharing with our guests. Eventually we hope to link all the photos of the wedding taken by friends there.

Check out Miss Ballet Flat's post about wedding websites as she has good pros and cons for the major sites out there. We ended up with Nearlyweds as well since a friend of us used it. I liked WeddingWire, just like Miss Snapdragon because it gave the option for your guests to request a song but in the end we stayed with nearlyweds because we already paid for it and the site looks cleaner.

Miss Peep Toe also select nearlyweds.

We used eWedding.com (www.eWedding.com/sites/katieandjoel/).  We *LOVE* the website and all of the layout/design choices it offers.

When you set up your site, you can choose to use a different domain name if you'd like.  Also, Miss Snapdragon (I think?) wrote a post all about how to redirect visitors from the site with your names "www.janeandbob.com"  to the actual site, without purchasing the domain name.  That is, your visitors type in www.janeandbob.com, but are redirected to your actual site without having to know a complicated url.  Hope that helps!

I am using Weddingwindow and I love it!  It has all these behind-the-scenes tools, like a guest list manager and gift tracker that are really easy to use!  You also have the option of getting a url with just your names!

I'm using weddingwindow as well.  Being a programmer, i have to say its very comprehensive as far as digging up and finding functional options.  My fiancee likes the avaible templates and pallete she can choose from.  Not to mention considering how often she is changing her wedding colors.

For myself, I was looking for an easy way to password protect the website so that only guests who received the invitations and STD's could access the site, look up information and rsvp right through the site.  I have a weird concern about wedding crashers and possible random crazy people showing up at our wedding and viewing personal information.  It has who are friends are, contact information, where our church is, who our family are, etcs.

We did consider the free ones such as mywedding.com, the knot and such but after being a guest and looking at those sites in the past for other people's weddings, I decided it just wasn't enough for our needs, especially when we would come in from out of town.  I think its an essential resource for out of town guests who need to look up that kind of info in case they lose their itineraries.

On the other side, being a programmer, yes I could have just designed and built the website from scratch myself, but with a full time job, my fiancee and I just don't have time for that.  So I believe paying the premium is worth it.  Its enough work as it is to gather the information and content together for the site to post on.  Its another headache to design and get it working the way we want it and that alone could take approximately 3 months.  Weddingwindow just makes more sense so we can focus on other aspects of the wedding planning in the limited amount of free time we have.
