I’m starting to diet as well and my wedding day is the day before yours so we have the same amount of time to get in shape! I’m hoping to lose 5-7 pounds but mostly just want to gain muscle and get in shape. I ordered Jillian Michaels Body Revolution two days ago so once it gets here I’m going to start it and the workouts are only 30 minutes a day which I love. I already eat pretty well but I need to mak my portions smaller.

I figure we have 9 months, so it’s not like we are expecting some impossible goal! We just need to stay motivated and keep our eye on the prize πŸ˜‰

I managed to lose 35 lbs for my wedding. I used an app called lose it, and was honestly never ever to make it to the gym regularly since between erratic work hours and being a full time grad student I was pretty busy. I do wish I had managed to tone up a bit more, but overall, I am happy with just the weight loss. Good luck!!

I’ve also jumped on the train too. I started in early December, and then the holidays caused me to fall off the bandwagon.

I downloaded the C25K app on my IPhone, so I intend to start running 3x a week. I also have been reading the forums on MFP and it seems that heavy lifting is also a great method, so I’m using the university gym to accomplish that.

The biggest challenge for me is to eat properly. I’ve always been a picky eater, so I’m working really hard to incorporate healthy food into my diet. It’s been a slow process, I try a new fruit or veggie about every week or so. Some of them I love, some I hate and then move on.

Smoothies have been a life saver, I add spinach and fruit and then blend it up, I also sometimes sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon or so of sugar free jello mix if I am concerned about taste. So yummy! I also mix a little bit of sugar free pudding mix into greek yogurt and that helps improve the taste, too.

I’m really trying to go from 140lbs to 110-120 (depending on how I look/feel) before my July 6th wedding – and more importantly the honeymoon!

If anyone uses MFP, feel free to add me (Fit_Is_Fabulous). I just rejoined today, after a failed attempt on sparkpeople and MFP several years ago. I really hope y’all keep me accountable!

I really just wanted to tone myself up. Think Nike model. I started in late August/early September and I’ve toned up and lost inches, feel better and can feel a difference in my clothes:

  • I or my FI cooks all throughout the week. We may go out to eat every other weekend but that’s it. I make my lunch and bring it to work and we plan ahead our meals for the week.

  • Lunch: sandwich on 100 calorie round bread with turkey most days, or sald with grilled chicken leftovers. I eat veggies with every meal. Fruit for snacks, cocoa roasted almonds for that mid afternoon office slump. Think Thin bars are great too. I drink plenty of water at work all day at and this helps with feeling hungry.

  • Dinner: Tried to get as plant based as I cold stand. Veggies that outnumber the protein (usually baked tilapia or grilled chicken). Crock pot meals are good too

  • always try to stick with the lowest calorie option but I don’t guilt myself if I have a treat. Cut processed foods and salt.

  • I started running, and now I an run 2 miles without stopping. Working up to 3! I do this 4 times a week.

  • I also do yoga and Pure Barre 3-4 times per week. Pure Barre toned me up AMAZINGLY. I can now do full body pushups, touch my toes and am much stronger than before.

@Cassiopeia:  I need to lose some weight, I am too self conscicnece right now to even try on any dresses.  I use MFP on/off but I am really putting in an effort for “on.”  I can’t seem to find you on there.  Add me aliciapdx I always need motivation.  The phone app is awesome because you can scan barcodes in for say Lean Cusines or a pack of nuts instead of searching for it.

Good luck, you can do it!!

I work really long hours (8-6) and with my commute I’m not home until 7. It was impossible to find time for the gym so I ended up joining one next to my work and I go 3-4 times a week during my lunch break. I lost some weight, but what surprised me the most is how much happier I am at work! Getting out for an hour has really improved my mood. maybe you can join a gym near your office?

I really advise against most processed “healthy meals” because there tends to be a crapton of sodium in them and no fresh veggies really. I did Weight Watchers last year and my weight barely budged even though I was working out like a madwoman. I was also downing all this super processed Skinny Cow stuff in addition to other processed things. I personally find it’s a lot cheaper and healthier to make my own salad in the morning and load up on lean protein. I also don’t feel the blood sugar spikes and lows.

Breakfast I usually do a Vans power grain waffle (10g protein) with fresh ground almond butter on top. I also love Fage 0% Greek yogurt with the different fruit flavors. (There’s some sugar here but the protein in Greek yogurt is great and I really can’t stand Greek yogurt by itself, it makes me gag. Fage, in my opinion, makes the best Greek yogurt.)

Other snacks I like are brown rice cakes with almond butter on top (kills a sugar craving instantly, especially in the afternoons), sliced apples and Emerald 100 calorie packs of cocoa roasted almonds. A tablespoon and a half of hummus and baby carrots is a favorite.

Whole Foods has these Popsicles that I love (Goodpops) that are basically fruit Popsicles with not much else in them. I love those after dinner.

I can look to see some Crock Pot recipes. Basically throwing chicken, veggie broth and seasonings with vegetables is a good meal. Shred the chicken when it’s done cooking and you have fajitas. La Tortilla Factory makes the best low carb tortillas that don’t taste low carb, haha.

Drinking water is integral–it helps keep you from bloating and has helped keep my appetite in check. I never really drank soda, but stay away from diet anything. Anything super processed and chemically enhanced makes my body pissed.

Lots of people swear by different types of diets and stuff (paleo comes to mind) but that doesn’t work for me since I don’t want to completely cut out a food group. I definitely don’t need to eat bread with every meal, but completely cutting stuff out makes me raise my eyebrows. I’m more of the school of moderation and making sure my vegetables are the biggest part of my meal.

@Cassiopeia:  good luck on your lifestyle change! I joined lose it in the spring and lost about 10 lbs in a month by just watching my calorie intake (def. did NOT deprive myself of treats every now and then) and using workout DVDs from home.

Today was my first day back on the wagon! If anyone is interested I bought Jillian Michaels’ 30 day shred and Denise Richards boot camp and both will kick your butt! I love them! They are both only 20-30 minute routines too, so they can be worked into a busy schedule.

I’m getting married on September 14th and I plan on losing 15-20 lbs as well! I’ve been working out regularly since November and am planning on taking it up a notch with a stricter diet in 2013.

I have My Fitness Pal and my username is Shal1217 on there πŸ™‚
