@mermaideve: Sorry for your loss.
On a lighter note, it's great to hear that your SO was supportive and that you are proud of him for the way he handled things.
I absolutely love it when SO pulls through and surprises me for the better. It's a gentle reminder as to why I fell in love with him in the first place. :)
Sorry for your loss! My condolences to you and your family. These types of things definitely open one's eyes to the reality of the world. I feel like when I lost my Grandfather (2010 and he was like my father) my SO really showed me how dedicated he was to me and my family. And it made me love him even more. I also started to get antsy about waiting because I wanted my grandfather to walk me down the aisle and started having conversations with SO telling him that tomorrow is not promised. I'm also graduating next month with my 2nd degree and my Grandfather didn't get to see me walk across the stage. For you and me like @ChicChick: said

We just got back from a trip out of town to attend my brother in law's funeral services. It made me stop and think about the relationship I'm in, and if we can grow the level of devotion that my sister had to her husband.
I have to say that BF performed very well today and was super kind to my sister. I found the whole experience encouraging about learning how he acts/reacts in a new situation.
Hmmm...
