@CarterLove:  I feel your pain!! My FI will be together 7 1/2 years on our wedding day….so ALOT of women on BOTH sides of the family have been waiting on this for awhile! what I have started doing is giving minimalistic awnsers, esp when it comes to the dress! 6 people (not counting bridal store consultant! and the BEE!!) know anything about the dress and only 2 have seen me in it….so i give a blase awnser like “oh i went strapless and A-line, but were trying to keep it hush hush since FI really really wants it to be a complete suprise!” and most people are agreeable with that! I dont tell them color or anything!

and when i do get snarky remarks from people who think they should know how are day should be….I take the southern approach (or so my friend from Savannah tells me it is) and very VERY sweetly say “Well I appreciate your advice, bless your heart for thinking about our day, but this is exactly what FI and I want, and since we are the ones paying for it, we dont have the funds to do everything everyone suggests, but thank you so much for your opinion”….and that usually shushes them!
Because the #1 thing I have found is EVERYONE HAS AN OPINION….BUT MOST ARE NOT WILLING TO COUGH UP MONEY IF YOU BLAME THE REASON ON SOMETHING FINANCIAL TO SEE THEIR OPINIONS TO FLOURISHION AND IT USUALLY SHUTS EM UP QUICK!

If you don’t want people’s opinions, just stop telling them about the wedding. Everyone has opinions on weddings, and they will share them.  So stop giving them the opportunity, and change the subject!

@CarterLove:  the amount of unsupportive commentary i’ve received is really disheartening. i’m totally at the point that i don’t even want to talk about it LOL!

It was my initiation into wedding planning to learn that EVERYONE will have about ten things to say and 8 of them will probably be rude, pushy, or just cross a line of what you’re comfortable discussing with them. I went home crying from work the Monday after we got engaged because SO many people stressed me out so bad by telling me all these horror stories of vendors and how 15 months wasn’t enough time or WHY ARE YOU TAKING 15 MONTHS?!?! There is just SO much. My theory is that, back in the day, there had ot be some evolutionary purpose of being trained to handle so much nonsense while still remaining composed and polite ahaha. Is this a form of finishing school or something? 😉 Hang in there!

Oh man. There’s always so many opinions around weddings!  I was at my cousin’s wedding over Labor Day – a gorgeous NYC rooftop party – and a handful of relatives were telling me “I hope you don’t have *blah blah blah* at YOUR wedding next spring!” Sheesh people! You’re at a party for crying out loud and we’ve known the bride since she was born!!

I’m lucky that I live half a country away from most of my extended relatives so I don’t hear the Negative Nancy crap that’s inevitably getting talked behind my back about my wedding but I just don’t give a flip. My wedding is going to be gorgeous and everyone who is open to having fun will have a great time but if a tiny minority of people in the grand scheme want to complain about attending a beautiful party then that’s their problem!

*flips hair, pivots, walks away* 😉

@CarterLove:  THIS is why I kept most of my wedding deatils to myself. I dont want to hear anyones opinions on my big day..I kept my sharing of details to a bare minimum
