I’m getting married at Venus on the Half Shell in Dewey Beach, DE next October. I was wondering if anyone out there has attended a wedding at this venue before or gotten married there. I’m very much looking forward to it–it was our first choice venue–but would like to hear what others thought.
Thanks very much!

Oh I love Dewey Beach! I don’t know any details about weddings at Venus, but I definitely love the location! This summer, my family thought we were going to get to watch our first wedding on the beach after 20 years of vacationing there, only to discover that the rental company had set everything up in the wrong place. (We actually were relieved, because it was in the middle of the afternoon on a really hot day in July.) The company arrived on site about noon for a wedding at one o’clock wedding. They set up everything in the middle of other people’s towels and blankets, and we knew that it seemed like the opposite of a dreamy beach front wedding. (After hearing that the wedding was at one, and puzzling because no one had arrived at ten after one, a lone woman arrived, and the rental group began frantically gathering everything back up again!) Our guess is that the wedding was supposed to be on the bayfront on a little tiny private beach on the other end of the street. That tiny bay beach is so small and hidden that no one would know it existed, so it would have been a simple enough mistake, but they definitely arrived too late to show that they were really a prepared organized company, and based on the fact that the floral archway kept falling down while they were waiting for the guests to arrive, I would really be cautious about which rental companies you use in Dewey Beach. (I don’t know the company’s name or I would send you that information!) I would definitely get someone local to help you find good reliable vendors!

@cshahan: Hi, Are you still getting married at Venus this October (2012)? Just wanted to get your thoughts on the rebranding and construction that they are doing to reopen as “The Ivy” this year. We are getting married there on September 8th.
