- Wedding: April 2014
I just spent the last few hours mooning over a few articles I found about how to save as much dough as possible with your wedding, so I thought I’d share them!
The comments on both sites are also worth looking at because they’re full of tips, as well.
As some of you may know, my FI has a staunch “must have -everything-” attitude when it comes to the wedding, and my focus is on saving a buck when and where I can without sacrificing too much. So I was taking off with some of the ideas and further slashed our guest list from 60 people down to 20-30, just to see if I could do it and get FI’s nod of approval, and I did it!
Then, I looked around for local parks and rec’s to have the ceremony at instead of a banquet hall. I found a local beach on a lake and fired off an email asking if I could host a wedding there. Boom!
I also scoped out the local Marshall’s for Nine West, Coach, BCBG, etc. high end shoes for low end price and found tons this afternoon. I fell in love with so many.
As for a DJ, we were previously quoted about $1000-1200. Well, I think I’d be happy using a playlist on my iPod or getting an amateur for my DJ purposes. I also thought of just a Master of Ceremony.
We still want to get a great photographer so we don’t want to skimp on that, but I found a great one for about $2400 for 6 hours of coverage, disk of shots, engagement session, unlimited photos, and online slideshow.
Lastly I emailed the coordinator of the last venue we saw that we pretty much fell in love with and asked her how creative she is. I asked if we could either slash our guest list down to 20-30 and have our event on a Saturday, or keep our 50-60 and slash the cost down and have it on a Friday or Sunday. I’m on FIRE.
So bees, hope you enjoy the articles. What do you think of my progress towards a less costly wedding?
