I am having a delima...I really want our honeymoon to be an all-inclusive resort somehwere in the carribean for a week and I really want to go after our wedding.  Problem is since we are paying for most of our wedding, we just cant afford it right after.  His family (who I havent met and most wont be down for the wedding) live in New York.  Now we both have a week off, should we splurge on a all-inclusive in may or take a trip to New York, spend 3-4 days just us then visit his family and save for our actual honeymoon in late august or september when rates will be lower?

Not sure I'd want to spend my honeymoon time with family... though I love them to pieces. Maybe do 4 or 5 nights instead of a week. At least you get away and you are alone. It doesn't have to be caribbean... could be a cruise out of NYC (cruise to nowhere even).

@hecallsmelove: I'm trying to stay away from cruises, we just got off one in August (my second in one year.)  But I have thought about just a few days.

You could go somewhere nice thats more affordable than a week in the caribbean, but it doesnt have to be NY with his parents.  You research local honeymoon resorts in you area you would be surprised how many options are so close to you

You could get a good deal for 4 or 5 nights for a reasonable price out of NYC. Also, you could try going to the poconos since it's not too far. Rent a cabin... cooking a few meals a day could save you money.

I would do an all-inclusive honeymoon! You will need quality time R&R with your FI after the wedding! Check out travelzoo or apple vacations for deals.
