My DH and I are planning a long weekend getaway trip in May. We live on the east coast, so are thinking somewhere not too far by plane. We’re thinking:
Key West, FL
New Orleans, LA
Or staying kind of local and going to Martha’s Vineyard, MA!
I’ve been to Key West and Martha’s Vineyard, but not the other places. Do anyone have any recommendations on where to go/what to do here? We would have 3-4 days.

I’d go to NOLA – it’s so much fun, the weather will be warm and a long weekend is enough time to see mostly everything. Martha’s Vineyard is beautiful, but a lot of times the end of May is still cold. Might not be able to go to the beach!
I love Key West, too. Ah, and Nashville. Everywhere you chose is awesome – I think any of those places would be great for a short little getaway.

@star282: NOLA! Oh man I love NOLA it is such a blast! The food is amazing, the drinks are over the top and the atmosphere is so rich and genuine.

We just got back from a quick mini-moon to New Orleans. We didn’t expect to like it but we ended up having a great time and we’ve already discussed going back in another year or two for a longer vacation. We loved the touristy nature of the French Quarter and Bourbon Street but we also loved being able to feel like a local by trying out bars just off the main drag. Our favorite was Yo Mama’s which had a passionate Saints crowd and the most delicious burger/baked potato combos ever!

Key West or New Orleans!
But I live pretty close to Martha’s Vinyard, and it’s not terribly exciting! Just very, very expensive.

Thanks! We’re leaning more toward New Orleans, but after a quick search it looks like airfare is kind of expensive for that weekend (over $400) where Nashville is under $300. I tried cheaptickets and Kayak.
Hopefully I’ll find a good deal to New Orleans because I’m almost sold on it now!

I’d go to Nashville! Its a really fun city, but not over the top crazy. You can do some exploring, see a show, go to cool bars… Its definitely one of my favorite cities

I do NOT like NOLA, bourbon street smells like piss, sketchy ppl all around, unless you are a heavy drinker and a crazy partier, i’d skip it.
The nicer places, like cafe dumont, and some local restaurants are nice, but not worth it for me. You literally are confined to the french quarter, and the waters nearby are nasty. lol
I chose Nashville (I would have chosen key west, but you’ve already been!) bc it’s clean, fun, southern charm, lots of stuff to do, great restaurants, bars that don’t smell, and classy lounges, make sure you get a rental car so you can drive around too (like Franklin, TN, they have the cutest downtown)! =)

@weddingbee098: Thanks for the advice! I did hear that the french quarter is really the only place to explore and we aren’t going there to drink heavy and party.
We basically want to walk around, explore, eat good food and have drinks in a nice bar or pub. We would have to check out Franklin, TN!

I’m from Franklin. It’s nothing like the city where I grew up and I am very ambivalent about it now :(.
My husband and I go to Nawlins for any time we want a quick trip. We drive down to Birmingham and take the train.

NOLA that is for sure especially since I am from there and family and friends still live there. Actually trying to look for a trip down there some time this year right now. Love it because there is so much to do!

I know its a matter of what you like to do, but I would be bored after about a day in Nashville, though I’m not a fan of country music. I would pick Key West any day.

@habibti: I would love to go to Chiago, but my DH was just there visiting friends 2 weeks ago so he vetoed that.
We are now thinking about adding Orlando to the list and going to Epcot! haha kids at heart.
