    Mrs. DG    July 18, 2009   Seattle/Tahoe

    Hi everyone!

We continue to have a lot of newbees arriving to the boards, and I want to make sure to extend a warm welcome!  If you are new to the boards this week or have been lurking but are ready to say hi, please introduce yourself in this thread!

Also, if you have any Weddingbee related questions about how things work around here, feel free to ask.  All questions welcome!

I'm Mrs. DG and am the resident Community Coordinator.  I've been married since last July and we're expecting our first little one in May!

Bonus question:  Most people's first car is a little bit funky and interesting, so tell us a story about your first car!

Mine was a 1977 Datsun 510 Turbo with over 100,000 miles on it when I bought it.  It was a great car and I put another 100,000 on it in 10 years.  By the end of it's tenure as my abused friend, we actually had a coat hanger holding in the battery and a push button to bypass the key ignition.  There wasn't a single piece of that car that was held together normally!  (And truly, it was a great dependable car!)

    Commercial for my car! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0LdwvteXpQ

The first green one was the exact make and color.  We called him "The Grasshopper" :)

Thanks for the welcome! I'm a 40+ bride, marrying for the first time to a great guy who I've been with for nearly 5 years (engaged 11/09, marrying 07/10). He's a chef; I'm a graphic designer. We're planning a quirky wedding with lots of DIY elements. My mom is beside herself with excitement. My cousins (I suspect) are betting on whether or not I'll call it off. I won't! It may have taken me forever to find the perfect man, but I don't doubt that I have.

My first car was a 1981 Toyota Corolla. The floor was rusted out and in the spring the carpet would get so damp that seedlings would sprout. I would let them grow to see how tall they got; the tallest was about 18". The doors rusted too, and I had to wire them shut so they wouldn't swing open and climb through the windows Dukes of Hazard style. I'm somewhat more dignified now.

Jade, welcome!!!  Congrats on your upcoming wedding :)  I totally understand the familial skepticism as an older first time bride myself!

I think your car definitely wins in the quirky category!  Love it!

Thanks for the welcome!  I was engaged March of 2009 and the date is set for July 2, 2011.  It's a pretty long engagement due to finances and friends overseas.  My fiance and I will have been been together 6 years this coming September.  We met in Montana, live in Indiana, and are planning the wedding in my hometown of Louisville, KY.  It's going to be akin to "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," as in my "big fat Filipino" family will take over the wedding and possibly overwhelm my fiance's humble-sized family.

My first car was a white 1987 Honda Civic named Fedora.  She was given to me (and named) by my aunt/ godmother.  Fedora came with a pretty visible scar that stretched on the entire passenger side of the car.  Overall, she was great!  She kept going even when her bumper was held by a lot of red rope.  Her passenger side mirror cracked long ago (and was rarely used), so instead of fixing it I thought a collage of Audrey Hepburn photos would look nicer over the cracked glass.

smartassbride    July 4, 2010   Portland, OR

Hi, I'm new this week! I'm smartassbride and I'm getting married to an awesome guy, smartassgroom, on July 4th in Portland, Oregon. We're planning a casual, outdoor wedding and are doing lots of stuff ourselves.

My first car was a white '68 VW Bug that I bought myself in high school. I loved it so much, but traded it in for a newer, faster car a couple years later. I still miss it whenever I see a bug!

Hello Hello! I'm pretty new here too!

I am a lifelong New Hampshire girl and a freelance designer. I also work for a wedding guide, so my life pretty much revolves around wedding-related things all the time. I love art, sunny days, shoes, farms, martinis, lipstick, snowboarding, any anything on the dessert menu.

My fiance is sort of a Clint Eastwood (back in The Good The Bad and The Ugly) mixed with Dean Martin type who loves music, building things, wine, and... me!

We have been together for 2 years, and got engaged December, 2009 in Boston. We are planning a small, fun, non-traditional wedding in Sunapee, NH April, 2011.

My first car was a 98 Plymouth Neon, which my parents bought when I was in highschool. It was emrald green with this HORRIBLE gold detailing. I just bought MY first TRUCK! It's a 2006 Chevy Colorado and it's the best!

    Hello!

I am a 25-year old bride (will be 26 when we are actually married).  My groom is the love of my life.  While we have not technically been together very long (just 9 months), we have known each other for 16 years as friends.

The wedding is October 2010 in our home state of Michigan. When we started this process, my FI said "wouldn't it be great to take a bar and pack it full of our friends and family for just one night?".  No complaints here!  Our ceremony and reception are both taking place at a wine bar and will have a very cocktail-party feel.

My first car was a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2. It was black with a moon roof, 6-disc CD changer and all of the bells/whistles :)  My mom drove it for 2 years with the intention of passing it to me when I turned 16 so I would take over payments.  That car had been through so much- road trips, a colision with a semi truck and moving me across the country to Arizona. It finally died in 2007 on the freeway in rush hour traffic. It was a cute car, that did not use a lot of gas. I will always love that car!

Hi all.  I got engaged on Christmas Day 2009 and will be getting married June 2011 in Seattle, WA.  We're both Seattle transplants and many of our guests will be coming from out of town, so we want to show them what we love about the Northwest.

I'd been looking around at wedding blogs/sites for a while before I stumbled on Weddingbee.  I love the supportive and positive atmosphere and the creativity of the members!  A great place for inspiration.

My first car was a 1996 white Chevy Lumina.  It was named Arthur because it had a long nose (like Arthur the Aardvark)!

I'm new this week too!  I've been reading some of the fabulous blogs on here for a while and finally decided to join!

I was married at The Merchandise Mart in Chicago in November 2008.  I married a photographer...hence the camera name.

My first car is pretty boring.  Just a black Toyota Corolla I named Terence.   I'm looking forward to everyone's posts and inspiration!

tugs    May 13, 2011   Brooklyn, NY - wedding in Lancaster, PA

    Hi everyone!

I'm new, too! My fiancé and I got engaged on February 13. We lived in Brooklyn, NY but we're getting married in central PA, where my family lives. We had hoped to have a destination wedding on a beach somewhere, but our budget didn't agree.

We're both 29 years old and we're planning on a May 2011 wedding. We've been dating 7.5 years and living together for 4 of those years. I'm a project manager at web design agency in Williamsburg. Although I've been lurking for a few weeks, I finally decided to take the plunge and say hello!

My first car was a 2002 Chevy Cavalier in silver. I grew up in Philadelphia, PA where you don't really need a driver's license, so I didn't get mine until I was 23 and living in Lancaster, PA where you kind of need a car to get around. I sold it when I moved to New York and I still miss driving around on the country back roads!

    Hey there everyone!

I have been engaged since December 19, 2009 and came across this website over Christmas, and I figured it's about time I introduce myself! I love all the wedding planning and just seeing everyone's creative ideas...even if I wasn't engaged or getting married I could see myself doing this stuff forever!

My first car was (and still is) a 2001 Mercury Sable...nothing too crazy with this car -- I got it for a great deal when my father was working at a dealership a few years back. It had been pretty much problem free for almost six years until just a few weeks ago I was driving to campus at Purdue and the back shocks gave in! :( Luckily my FI was just getting out of class and came to rescue me :)

I am getting married pretty soon actually - May 21, 2010! I am marrying my best friend whom I met on a mission trip in January 2009. I am so excited!

MissAsB    June 6, 2009   Married in CO, Living in AL

    Welcome to all the newbees!

I am Miss AsB.  My husband and I were married last June.  We moved across the country right after the wedding to the South.

My first car was a Volvo (not sure about the model but it was an 80's one).  It was basically as old as I was but it only lasted until the summer before my senior year.  I got stuck in a food and water ended up frying the computer.  After it was replaced, my dad went to back the car out of the driveway and it shot out of the driveway and tried to climb a tree.  My dad didn't think it was safe after that.

    Hi Everyone!

I'm 26--getting married in June. 3 months to go and I feel like every time I get on the internet I'm searching for something wedding-related.. Glad to see i'm not the only one compulsively looking at my ring, trying to find pictures of my dress, and basically living and breathing this wedding.

    See you around!

    Hi Bees :)

I'm new here and I've loved looking around and getting completely hooked on this site.  We got engaged on Feb. 14th of this year (after being together for 5 years) and we're looking to get married on June 24th of 2011. Since we're having to pay for our wedding by ourselves, we're going to have to DIY almost everything and anything we can.  So, if you can guide us to any vendors that are willing to work with really low budget people in the LA or OC areas of CA it would be greatly apreciated :)

My first car was a 1984 Nissan (Datsun) Maxima which decided to leave me stranded everywhere and anywhere.  It would constantly get flat tires and one time decided to pop its tire while I was driving.  Needless to say, I wasn't to fond of this car.  Another time, it stopped working while we were going uphill.  My brother and I got out of the car to try to push it the rest of the way up.  It defied us and tried to roll down onto us.  Lucky for us, someone we knew was came driving up behind us and pushed the car all the way to the top of the hill.  In the end, my Maxima earned the name "El Diablo" (The Devil) because it was the only name that seemed to fit. :)

    Hello Everyone,

A friend suggested this website after I had a horrible experience on the knot forums (they really don't like new people which is kind of odd).  I've been lurking for about a week now and I really like this site.  I am getting married in July to a very nice guy I met in grad school, ironically 3 other people from my department are also getting married this summer.  I think we have a lot of the wedding details ironed out but we keep discovering more stuff to do.

My first car was a 1992 Pontiac Bonneville which I inherited from my mother in 1997.  It tended to cut out if you put exxon gas in it or if you came to a stop while going uphill.  I totalled it in 1998 when my car hydroplaned into an oncoming lane of traffic (it totalled the pick-up truck I hit as well as the jeep who was tailgaiting the truck too).  Probably the most interesting part of this story is that they used to let 15 year olds have licenses in Louisiana and not much was required to get one.

    Miss.626    September 24, 2011   Durham,UK

    Hi all,

am a UK bride (Woop!) and i have been with my FH nearly 7 years now, not bad considering i'm only nearly 22! So we got together May 03, moved in together with a house mate october 06, and finaly got our own space september 09, got engaged Feb 2010, and plan on getting married September 2011!!! so theres a few dates to blow your mind!

anyway, we're both young (him a little less young than me, coming up 27 now bless him) we both work way too hard now in the hope that one day we can sit back and relax together. as a result we dont get much time together, except curling up in bed at night as thats about the only time we see eachother, meaning housework can suffer as if we're both in together we'd rather be curled up on the sofa catching up on tv!!!

we both want kids (both are oldest of 3 children), and we're both a little bit mad. you may be wondering about my screen name, it is of course Disney's Stitch - Experiment 626, we have 2 Stitch toys who have been with us since we started dating, they were our link to eachother when we didnt get to see eachother a lot. they are our boys, and are a little bit insane themselves, they like getting up to mischief, and we like to send eachother photos of what we've found them getting up to!

Weekly Welcome 03/08/10-03/15/10 : wedding Stitch Truck Hijack

Case in point, this is the boys trying to hijack the FH's Truck, but i think their legs arent long enough!!!

anyway, we're plannin to get married next september, have no idea as to budget, location, number of guests or general theme. Other than that our colours will be Peacock Blue and Purple! And that i will not have a traditonal dress, i will be wearing what i can promise will be a heavenly bespoke corset and some sort of skirt. The corset will be made by a woman i met through one of my many jobs who makes the most beautiful corsets, i implore you to go check her out! http://www.sparklewren.co.uk

M first car was a Renault Clio, it was red and crap! The boot did not lock, handy as i was forever locking my keys in! The drivers side door was held shut with cable ties, and i had to climb in the passenger side and over the gear lever, was a nightmare!!!

Hello!  My fiance proposed on Feb. 25, and we're tenatively planning an April 2012 wedding in Chicago.  He's still in school, so our timeline is somewhat dependant on when he finishes and finds a job.  I'm not a champion DIYer, but I love reading about all of the great projects being posted here.  Hopefull I'll be inspired!

I'm really excited about selecting a venue, planning a menu, and working on invitations, but can't picture myself in a wedding dress yet.  We'll see :)

My first car was a 1985 Toyota Corolla.  I learned a lot of important car lessons, like how to push it out of the street when it stalled.  Good times.

Hello!  I absolutely love this site.  I don't know what took me so long to become a member.  My name is Erin; I'm 25 and getting married on June 25, 2010.  My fiancé and I are so excited to get married and have a lot of the details planned out.  I am looking for some fun DIY projects to fill my Spring Break (I'm a teacher) and have already found some great ideas;  I am so excited I will actually have time to bring them to life!

My first car was a 1993 Lebaron Convertible.  It was silver and tan (the perfect color combo... NOT).  It was a great little car except when it would backfire in the school parking lot... stoplights etc. You get the picture.

    Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi Everyone!  My MOH is also getting married and has been talking about this site so much, that I just had to join.  My fiancee and I are getting married in October 2010 and got engaged last year in July.  We're paying for the wedding ourselves but I think are eyes are bigger than our wallet!

My first car was a 1990 Chevy cavalier I inherited from my mom.  It was basically a box with wheels, but I loved it so much that when I bought my first car I also got a chevy cavalier.  Both black. But in the intervening 10 years, the car was much more areodynamic and seemed much much cooler!

I'm looking forward to posting with you all over the next few months!

Thanks Mrs. DG for a warm welcome! I am a 25 year old bride ready to marry the love of my life! We got engaged the end of January (2010)  and will wed this June (2010) on the Oregon Coast. Planning our wedding has been exhausting, exciting, and confusing - I am glad I found this wonderful site to share and receive much needed information.

My first vehicle was a dark brown 1988 Ford Taurus station wagon. It was a huge boat! I limo tinted all the windows (partly because I was a little embarrassed driving around a station wagon at age 17 and I wanted to make it a little more hip). This move backfired - I ran into a few things backing up at night (the limo tint was so dark). The vehicle had something wrong with it and I always ended up at the mechanics every few months. The wagon didn't last long, and I dumped it after 2 years.

Hey y'all! I've totally been a lurkey-lurkerson on this site since, well, I can't even remember. I'm 22 (Fi is 23) and we've been together since we were 18 (going on 5 years, woot!). And here's the best part, I proposed to him! Which, is totally not me (passive much?), but I knew a good thing when I saw it. Plus, I'm quite possibly the most impatient person, ever (can you tell I'm the youngest child?).

Anyways, our date is tentative, especially since he's still in school and I'm, well, I'm just trying to figure things out. I'm a licensed Esthetician, who currently works for a publishing company and does makeup artistry on the side, so I'm sure you'll see me on the Beauty boards more often than not.

I still own my first car. A 2001 silver Civic Ex. It gets great gas mileage, is super dependable, and after over 125,000 miles, it still hasn't given out on me (knock on wood!).

Thanks again for welcoming me to the hive!!!!

Hey everyone!! I've posted a few times, but now we're shifting into a higher gear as we approach our 1 year pre-anniversary!  I love this site!  Thanks so much!  My first car was a 1988 Honda Civic...I hated it at the time, but ended up buying another one when I turned 22, my first new car!  I agree, Civics are awesome Sunshineandhoney.   I just had the final talk with my fiancée about eloping vs. an actual wedding, and we've decided that we're going for it (good thing, because we already have our deposits down)!  The Bee's support (even as a lurker) has been so important!

I wanted to pop in because I love this question: I drive a VW beetle that I've had for nearly 8 years and I love it!  It is a very very light green color, almost white, called Luna Green...I love when I'm driving and I see people punch each other as I pass ("punch buggy")!

    Hello WeddingBee Community,

I am a 24 year old wedding fanatic. I love all things weddings; flowers, photography, dresses, family and most of all LOVE.

I was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of Asheville NC and cant wait to share   my hometown with any out of town guests. My ideal wedding is fairly intimate with about 70 people, and will incorporate all things Western North Carolina; music, food, mountains, and family.

I have been in love for a year with the sweetest boy I have ever met; we just recently moved in together and spend every free moment cuddling. I was obsessed with weddings before I met him but now it’s a little more serious. I don’t foresee an engagement within the next year but I am certain it will happen when the time is right. I try to hide my compulsive wedding blog stalking just so he doesn’t get the wrong idea.

My main motivation for ogling these beautiful sites comes from my fear that I may not be able to have the wedding I dream of on the budget of my reality, every gorgeous DIY project I see makes my heart flutter with excitement. I also dream of one day owning my own cupcake shop. My second love is cooking and what better way to feed my obsession than making cupcakes filled with all my love to share with others on their special day, whether that is a birthday, a graduation, or a wedding.

I’m sorry this was so long but it felt really good to put these secret thoughts into words and share them with whoever is out there.

P.S. my first car was a 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88 (I was 2 when it was made). Bench seats in the front and back held six girls and drove like a Bobsled.

     Sincerely,

JenBabe (name given by Boyfriend, originates from a Saved by the Bell episode)

    Hi there!

I'm Katie. New to weddingbee, but not to engaged life. I've been engaged to my lovely fiance since November 2008. We are getting married May 21, 2011.

In my spare time I write a decor themed blog and hope to eventually turn that into a design business. The visual asthetic to my wedding is the most important thing to me because I'm just a really visual person.

My first car was a 1992 Ford Tempo. I paid cash for her, but only had her two weeks before I crashed her.

Hi, I've been following for a while and found myself recently interested in helping others with their questions and asking my own since the big day is now fast approaching!! We got engaged (what seems like forever ago) on Dec. 6, 2008.  We will be married on August 20th, 2010, which also happens to be the exact day of our 6 year anniversary! I'm ecstatic! Although I've stood up in many friends weddings, I still find myself with many questions as I've found some other bees have as well! Luckily there are a lot of girls out here willing to give suggestions, advice & support!

Forgot my first car... it was an '89 Pontiac Firebird.  The fabric on the ceiling drooped down, water from an automatic carwash seeped through my sunroof (closed), and frequentely stalled at red lights, but it got me through until I bought my own brand new car after graduating high school!

Welcome everyone! I've been around for a little while but thought I'd join in the fun because I still miss my first car =) I drove a 1973 3/4-ton chevy pickup named "the beast." I'm a petite person (and was even more so in high school when I started driving) so it was quite a sight seeing me peering over the steering wheel in my massive truck! It was all rusted out and had not paint (toner grey) and I miss it to this day!

Oh and wedding details...I'm marrying my high school sweetheart (who I gave rides in The Beast back in the day, we took drivers ed together!) in our hometown 3,000 miles away from where we currently live in NC. Our wedding is set for late July and we can't wait!

    Hi Everyone,

I've been stalking weddingbee since i got engaged about a year and a half ago...i've just stared reading the boards and its so nice to meet you all.  I'm a New York bride and I've been with my fiance for over 7 years.  We met a bowling alley and here we are now getting ready to start a new chapter in our life.  Our wedding day is set for late september.  I've got about 6 more months to go until the big day and i'm so excited.

Unfortunately I do not have a car, never owned one, but the fiance lets me drive his car when i need to go anywhere. =)

    Hello, Bees!

I'm a newbee writing under the handle of Miss Taco, and I live in San Francisco. We're having a very urban vintage (as I call it) wedding, with Roaring 20s and old Hollywood serving as my inspiration. My fabulous husband-to-be and I currently in a hurry-up-and-wait pattern, as August couldn't come soon enough! Planning has been a heck of a ride, and it'll be strange once it's all over and the wedding binder gets passed down to my next bm to tie the knot :)

    JenBabe:

For me, the BEST parts of planning a wedding are the inexpensive items.  For example, over 50% of our budget is going to food and booze, which will be fun and delish, but I spent about 30 min total picking them out.  A $30 fascinator/cage veil, on the other hand, calls for days and days of Etsy stalking, WeddingBee stalking, and rough drafts and artist depictions.  It is the little and inexpensive details that make my heart pound.  So a backyard BBQ with 20 friends and a case of PBR would be just as fun for me, as long as I have months to pick out my nailpolish, and earrings, and my shoes!  Oh goodness, my shoes: the cheaper the better, as long as they are black and I can hot glue silk flowers and feathers all over them!!!  You will have fun no matter what your budget, I promise.

    Hi!

I am new to the board also! Thanks for the welcome.  I was engaged in early February and am planning a wedding in Vermont in July 2011. The date keeps changing because we're trying to balance venue, band, church etc.  All of this is a little more stressful and a little less fun than I had imagined :-)

I've been with my groom Chandler (yes, Chandler) for almost 4 years.  Can't wait to get some great advice from the other brides and brides to be on this board.

My first car was a 1993 Acura Integra.  My sister actually got married a week after my high school graduation (she was only 22!) and all of our friends and family forgot about that bc of the wedding. Somehow apparently I didn't seem to complain too much so my parents got me a car.  It was a great car- the only weird thing was it didn't have any cupholders. Oh the things you remember 12 years later!

    See ya!
