I'm 20 weeks and I don't have a cute belly that's obvious to everyone "She's pregnant!"
Instead, I'm just... thick around the middle. It's like all the weight went to my butt instead of giving me a cute belly. I feel gross and I'm over it! I just want to show in a more defined way. I've been eating healthy, but I'm so tired all the time. I have no energy and have to force myself to go for walks. Also I fall asleep during the day, like when my daughter naps.
It's really common to be bloated through the 1st trimester. It's not really weight weight but more water flux from all the changes. I think I felt bigger in the first trimester from my "bloat baby" than I did once I really did start to show (around 3-4 months).
I wouldn't worry about it too much unless you continue to gain & you're feeling bad from it.... as long as momma & baby are healthy & you're feeling good pregnancy is NOT the time to watch the scale. ;)
Bloat is so common during the first trimester!
I started not fitting into any of my pants at 8 weeks....maternity pants at 10 weeks and by 13 week had a noticeable bump to people that knew me. Around 17 weeks was when I think it was really noticeable to strangers. But I'm short and petite and had a flat tummy pre pregnancy. Everyone is so different!
Just try to focus on resting and taking care of yourself...the pounds will come but there's not much you can do about it ; )
@KatyElle: Awe. A friend of mine just had a little boy and she didn't get the baby belly until the last month or so. He was positioned more in her back than out front. I hope you get your cute baby belly soon!
@amnystik: I hope it is just bloat. I don't want to be unhealthy. I really want to do the best that I can do to stay healthy for both of us. It is just so hard some times. Growing a little person is exhausting. Thank you! TYou really made me feel better.
I felt bloated up until 20 weeks. I felt like I started to pop around that time and now there is no mistake that I am pregnant. It's full on prego belly! I echo what amnystik says. I promise you will get to that point where you don't feel bloated anymore.
I remember the bloated feeling, it was horrible! I kind of popped earlier, around 13 weeks, but I didn't become obviously pregnant to most people until about 19 or 20 weeks, which is also when my belly stopped feeling bloated and just started feeling stretched out.
I take it from this that the bloated feeling goes away. Thank god! I hate this feeling. I was very excited to feel "bigger" but not bloated grossness.
people started being able to tell that I was prengnat at 18 weeks.
until then, my hubby could notice the changes, but to others i probably just looked a little chubbier.
@PennyLainne: I started feeling that way around the same time. Like you, no food was really appealing to me, but I still forced myself to eat. Making dinner is tough, though...not only because I'm always exhausted, but because when you're not hungry, cooking doesnt sound like fun! Ha.
Now I'm about 10.5 weeks, and I'm definitely starting to show more. I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to hide it at work. This is my second pregnancy, and I've heard that you show MUCH sooner with your second. For me, that rumor is proving to be true! With my first pregnancy, I swear I didn't start showing til like 4 months!
@PennyLainne: I actually started to show around 11 weeks and I have a bit of a tummy anyway. I'm 14 weeks right now and I'm beginning to look a little pregnant and not just fat. I felt exactly how you're feeling (pshhh, still do). I used to go for 4-5 mile walks every day and I haven't done that since I found out I was expecting! It was hard for me to eat, nothing sounded good and I ended up eating crappy things like egg roles and tator tots, but I ended up actually losing 6 pounds. I wouldn't worry about gaining anything or not excercising since now is the time to take it easy and concentrate on getting something in your stomach!
@JewishBride: yeah, I ended up losing a few pounds too. I was shocked when I realized I had lost weight when I was already looking like I gained weight!!
I had to start wearing maternity pants right around 9 weeks and I was losing weight. So your pants not fitting seems normal to me :) I was heavier to start, but my father guessed I was preggers at 11 weeks and a cashier at the grocery store asked me at 12. You might just show sooner.
@bunnylovesbear: I was too! I've just been feeling"fat" lately and was expecting to be lectured by my doc.
18 weeks and I don't look pregnant at all, just fat! Eventually you will show but the bloat will hang around for as long as it wants...
I am 8 weeks tomorrow and I have felt huge for 2weeks. I have purposely not stepped on he scale but I feel like I've already gained 10lbs. My plan is tLarry harder to keep my diet under control in my 2nd trimester when I feel better. I have a big poich too. Let's just enjoy being pregnant and the miracle it is! So many would b grateful to be feeling fat because of such a blessing. Xo
I transitioned to maternity pants probably around 9 or 10 weeks - they were just more comfortable. I'm at 13.5 weeks now and my belly is really starting to pop, but it was noticeable to me a couple weeks ago. If I wear a maternity shirt that is empire waist, it is very clear that I'm preggo. Otherwise I just look very thick through the middle. I've been feeling HUGE since about 6 weeks though and I've only put on two pounds since finding out I was pregnant, and I'm thinking easily there has got to be one pound more in each of my boobs. lol. It stinks, but I definitely still feel "big" and am guessing this is just how I'll feel through the whole thing.
I'm still feeling bloaty at a little over 9 weeks. I haven't transitioned to maternity pants yet. The bloat with my sweaters make me look fat not necessarily pregnant. I have a few belly bands since I can't quite fit into a one pair of pants. I may get new pants on Monday when I switch out some underwear.
I had the same problem. I felt like I gained weight really early on, because it was almost right away that my pants were uncomfortably tight. My body shape just started changing or something. I bought my bella band I think around 7 weeks, and my first pair of maternity pants at like 10. They were so much more comfortable, I didn't even care. My belly was hugely bloated, and while it wasn't yet a baby bump, it was way different than my normal stomach. I also couldn't eat that healthy in the beginning because almost everything made me sick, so if I did want something, I ate it, unhealthy or not. I also had to eat a lot of jolly ranchers and drink a lot of ginger ale due to all day nausea, and that was a lot of calories I didn't used to have. Don't worry, it will start to feel better once you get a regular baby bump!
I'm 18 weeks and have been gaining weight but still have nothing to show for it - it's been incredibly frustrating and a bit depressing! I've only started putting on weight in the last 4 - 5 weeks but I think I am up about 9 - 10 lbs now, which is really hard to see. I've always been skinny and somewhat obsessed with the scale so to see the number go higher than it's ever been in my life is really hard to accept.
I know this is all for a very good reason and I'm hoping it gets easier once I actually start getting a bump. For now, I'm just getting thicker - no rounding yet to the belly but it's just thicker. I'm still a ways away from wearing maternity clothes but I don't like the way a lot of things look on me - I can see the thickeness of my stomach and as it doesn't look like a pregnancy belly yet, it just makes me feel fat. Maternity clothes look ridiculous on now so I'm at this limbo phase where I just want to look pregnant already and stop feeling fat!
Suffice to say, you are not alone in feeling like this - I think we all go through it as we hit the awkward phase of feeling fat but not yet looking pregnant! Touch wood once the bumps start coming, the feeling will go away.
I didn't pop until 24 weeks and even then, unless I wore something that emphasized it, it was hard to tell. My OB said most people don't start obviously showing until between 20 and 24 weeks.
I was bloated all first trimester too. And I even gained weight during that time. I didn't have a 'bump',but I'm sure glad it wasn't bikini season, because I definitely looked (to me) like I was packing on some pounds. Someone mentioned my face filling out. Another person noticed my boobs were bigger.
As far as showing off an actual baby bump, I'd say it depends what you wear. It wasn't until maybe 23 or so weeks that 'everyone' could tell no matter what I wore. At 18 weeks it would show if I wore a tight shirt.
I was super tired first trimester too and couldn't get off the couch. 2nd trimester that all turned around and I've been as active as ever. Hang in there: it gets better!
I was way bloated early on. I think I had to almost immediately start doing the trick with the hairband on the jeans button. I don't really think that my belly started to look even remotely like a bump until about 20 weeks. Then, I totally popped right about 24 weeks and have looked obviously pregnant ever since (I'm 31 weeks).
It goes away!
I was definitely bloated right away. I was miserable utnil I was about 14 weeks and then the bloating stopped. Try to wear comfortable pants, I started wearing some maternity pants early on but have finally transitioned just recently at 20 weeks.
Also, I'd give yourself a break about the weight/what you've been eating. The weight will come when it comes, and it comes at different stages for everyone, some months I'll feel like I've gotten enormous but have barely gained anything while other times I feel great but have gained more. And on the eating side, try to eat healthy when you're up for it but your first trimester is tough, if crackers & jello sound good then I'd stick to that!

When did you start to show? Or feel like you were showing?
I have always had a little bit of a tummy on me but lately I have been feeling so bloated and fat. I haven't been eating very healthy this past week and I have gained a couple pounds, I know that but I feel huge! I feel like I shouldn't be this big already. It might just be in my mind but my pants don't fit.... I need to eat helathier but everything that seems remotely good for you makes me gag... So I have been eating alot of crackers and jello. I also know I need to get off the couch but I am just so tired. I get home and make supper and by the time I am done that I am exhausted. I know I need to just get up and do it, but when all you can think about is sleep it is hard.
*sigh* Just seeing if any one else felt like this or feels like this.
I do know that I am pregnant and I am bound to gain weight but so soon? I am only at 6 weeks 5 days....
