Ok, obviously this sounds very silly, but I couldn’t find any info on this online so I thought I’d ask you lovely ladies!!
<br />I just got married past June, and since the beginning of this year, I have had a surge of baby fever, as in not the ‘bubbling away in the background’ I’ve had since I met my husband, but it’s turned into a desperate ‘I want to be pregnant now!!!’ and I really feel 95% ready (because who can really be totally ready?).
Anyway, I’ve put on weight for the first time ever. I had the exact same weight since I was a mid-teen about 12 years ago and now it’s up by 5.5-6lbs and still going up steadily. I haven’t changed what I eat or how much, or the amount of exercise I do, and my husband and I lived together before marriage, so our lifestyles or eating patterns hasn’t changed.
I can’t help but feel that my body preparing for pregnancy? I’m getting curvier in the right areas now (my husband likes it!!), and previously I was pretty low on the ‘normal’ BMI scale and close to underweight. Obviously this baby fever is hormonal, so has anyone else felt those hormones may also affect you physically and not just mentally?
Fyi I’m 27 and now 54.8kg as opposed to 51kg. We might be ttc starting in January depending on my job, otherwise Aug 2015.

MrsYoshida: I gained a little bit before I got pregnant, but I think it had more to do with moving to a place where I don’t have to bike to work than the baby fever.
I’ve never heard of weight changes caused by getting ready to try to get pregnant. It could just be happy wedding weight, or your metabolism slowing down, which is unfortunately normal after your early twenties.

MrsYoshida: I gained a little weight, but I chalk mine up to stress eating. TTC was really difficult for us emotionally (fun at times, but still hard) and I think I wound up eating more comfort foods.

I gained a few pounds before I got pregnant, but not because of any reason other than I was suuuper stressed out and work and bailed on my diet.

MrsYoshida: Did you live with your husband before getting married? It’s probably more due to moving in or just being married (“happy weight”). I gained about 5 pounds since getting married a year ago, but it was intentional to get my body more ready to TTC since my BMI was too low.

I gained weight in the year before TTC, but I attribute that to hormonal changes associated with coming off the pill. Who knows, but that’s what made the most sense to me.

Metabolism slows down as you age.

Sounds like “happy weight” to me! Google “newlywed weight gain” and you will see what I mean.
FWIW I gained “happy weight” after the wedding, lost it, then gained it again after coming off of the pill to prepare for TTC.

MrsYoshida: Ok, so this may sound a little “new-agey” of me but since you said your lifestyle hasn’t changed at all…
I believe our brains are very powerful things. I think having such a strong desire for children, getting pregnant, and realizing that you want it NOW has left you thinking about it a lot. And I think, in a way, our bodies physically respond to psychological triggers like that.
Kind of like how being so emotionally upset you can make yourself physically sick.

playdohpants: Surely ‘happy weight’ would be a similar psychological triggered effect like being baby-ready too! Guess it’s not so ‘new agey’ 🙂
Thanks for your replies everyone, and I hope this isn’t just ‘metabolism slowing down’.. I’m too young!
