I’m a size 12/14 and am dying to lose some weight, but that’s only because I recently put on about 10 lbs from birth control–I don’t feel like “me.” But it’s not for the wedding, per se–more for myself because I’m tired of looking in the mirror and saying “yuck.” If I can tone up a bit, I think I’ll be happier…

I too am a 12/14 and I NEED to lose weight. I recently have gained weight from birth control and the passing of my sister, stress etc. Right now I dont feel like I look like me, and I want to look back on my pics and recognize myself. I say if you are happy the way you are then you are one of the few amazing women! More power to you!

@BlueChampagne: Yeah, I don’t get that, either. I mean, I was pressured by some family members to do it for the wedding because my hips “are too damn big,” but the problem is…that’s my bone structure. I will NEVER, realistically, be below a size 10, no matter how skinny my waist is.

Btw…am I allowed to post on the full-figured boards? I guess I’m afraid others will say I don’t qualify or something, lol.

I’m not losing weight for the wedding!  I’ve tried to tone up my arms a bit, but even that plan fell by the wayside.  🙂  I regularly work out 4-5 times a week anyway, and though I’m not skinny by any means, I’m at my “comfortable” weight.

I’m more worried about gaining weight after the wedding!

You know, I think it’s well…sort of sad to lose weight for a wedding. Dont’ get me wrong–I understand WHY brides do want to lose weight for a wedding–as a size 12 (and 5′ tall, natch) and as a person who reads all the same magazines as the next girl, I get it. But I like it when brides look like who they are, and when they don’t give into “The Swan” mentality. I also hate how weddings are in some way carte blanche to talk about the bride’s body so critically. I’ve also lost 40 pounds last year the old-fashioned way and I know that when you try and lose weight for an event, it just messes with your head (well, okay, some people seem to flourish with that kind of goal, but most people–whose bodies don’t generally behave as we want them to all the time–get messed in the head).

Personally, I think it’s AWESOME that you are happy the way you are. My way of handling it is to keep exercising and eating right, but to work harder on my self-image. Sometimes I fail at being nice to myself and freak out, but on the whole, I think that working on self-love will have a much bigger effect on me being beautiful on the day of, rather than a situation in whcih I’m freaking out about my thighs or those last 5 pounds.

I’ve always known even before the engagement that I’ve needed to lose weight. I was 2 sizes smaller when I met the FI and 4 years later I am 40 lbs heavier. I am not losing weight for the wedding, rather I am using the wedding as my motivation. If it doesn’t happen, then it doesn’t happen. If it does, then it’s like a cherry on my sundae. =)

@BlueChampagne: Well, part of mine was that I was on a triphasic pill for 6 years, then got switched to a monophasic pill when I had to go to PP and get the waiver (fell on hard times, no insurance, etc.) They switched me back, but the damage was done…I went from 127 to 140 in a month. It doesn’t look “bad,” per se, but I am nearing the overweight BMI category, which really scares me.

I’m trying to lose weight just in general.  I am (mostly) a size 14 and am most comfortable in my own skin at around a size 10.  It would be nice if I could get there for my wedding pictures, but I don’t care what the tag on the dress says.  I’m in this for life.

I really wanted to lose weight (I’m a 16/18), but once I saw my dress and all the curves I had, I loved it! It was the first time I really thought I looked sexy. So I decided to focus on other things like finishing my degree and planning this wedding. Now that I am done with the degree and almost done with the wedding (Saturday!), I will lose the weight. I was a size 8 a few years ago and I need to get back down to fighting weight!

I am indeed trying to lose weight for my wedding.  I have spent most of my life around a size 14-16, but in the last 3 years (since FI and I moved in together) I went up to a size 22.  Like someone else said, “I just don’t feel like me” and I want to get back there.  I don’t recognize myself in pictures anymore, so I am trying to get back to that happy place.  I am not trying to become someone I’m not, just looking to get back to who I am 🙂
