UKbee:  Never consider the lose the weight, and deal with ill-fitted dress option!  You will HATE pulling it up all day/night, and a lot of dresses stretch even more once worn throughout the day!

Beyond that, I would ask your alterations person/place what they recommend.  Four weeks ‘out’ seems like too much time for it to be a final fitting, in my opinion, compared to approximately two weeks out where they could make minor last minute adjustments.

However, if that is the timeline they NEED to work with, or if they give you a new timeline therafter, at some point you will need to try to maintain as best you can.  I panicked when mine was a two-week window from last alterations til day of, but it ended up fitting perfectly!!

What type of gown do you have? If you have a ballgown then it would be easy to do last minute alterations on the top only, if your bridal store won’t do it then lots of places offer same day or at least 1 week service so you could have it taken in somewhere else? I agree 4 weeks out is a bit far away from the wedding when they know a lot of brides lose weight for the day, they probably get asked this question all the time so I would speak to them.

UKbee:  i’m in the exact same boat and getting married the 13th of November! My dress is due in towards the end of September. i tried on the UK size 10 dress and it fit my top half perfectly but was way too tight on my bottom half, my dress is a sheath dress so not much flow going on! They ordered me the size 12, but i’ve since lost 5lbs by joining unislim and hitting the gym. I aim to have another 7lbs lost by first dress fitting and to stop there and maintain it. I’m really worried about the alteration process too, my dress is very delicate with lots of beading. I’m sorry now I didn’t order the size 10 because all my clothes are looser now so I’m sure that would have fit me better than the size 12 sniff I already knew they’d have to alter the top but now i think it might turn into a big job.

anyway in response to your question, i’m aiming to hit my target by my first dress fitting and maintain from there on in, shouldn’t be too hard for the 4-6 weeks! i really don’t have the time or money for multiple alterations plus I don’t want to lose more weight than my goal anyway I still want to look like me 🙂

I had my last fitting a couple of days before my wedding and I was glad I did because I lost a ton of weight the week leading up to the wedding. My seamstress even took it in a few more inches than she had measured and it ended up fitting perfectly when I picked it up. I would highly suggest having a fitting closer to your wedding day.

Get the last fitting done closer to your wedding and do not lose weight after that. The most important thing in making a dress look good is fit.

I would try to get that final fitting moved closer to your departure date, for sure! I would say no more than 2 weeks out, if you anticipate your weight fluctuating that much.
