Hi everyone :) I am MissSunshine!!! I got engaged last Friday (!!!!) completely unexpectedly. I am in a bit of a pickle though... I am having weight loss surgery in the next 4 months (probably the first week in January) and it's cramping my wedding style. LOL.

I want SO badly to go try on dresses but it wouldn't be worth it at this point. I suppose what I wanted to ask is if other brides have lost significant weight before their wedding and what their challenges were? I also don't figure I will be at my "goal" by next October, and I don't want to feel like I should have put it off longer in order to reach my goal first.

Anyone care to share their experiences? (I am also not looking to start any arguments about weight loss surgery..)

My mom had gastric bypass a number of years ago with good success.  I would highly recommend getting a dress with a corset back.  Mom dropped from 250 down to 132 in about 10 months.  One thing her surgeon told her is she would likely drop ten lbs under her goal before stabilizing (which she did).  A corset back dress will help accomodate the quick weight loss and any fluctuations.

Beware of sugar and alcohol at the reception.  You'll probably be far more senstive after the surgery.

    Good luck with the surgery!

I had weight loss surgery in 2001 (& a baby in 2003).  I lost 125lbs, and have kept off 100lbs. I would wait to try on dresses. Depending on how much you have to lose, expect the majority of your weight loss to be in 8-10 months. GOOD LUCK !!!!

My mom had weight loss surgery my senior year of high school about 7 years ago. She had maintained her weight loss and looks great. She gained maybe 30 lbs back over the years but we headed right to weight watchers. As you know, it's not a quick fix but a tool. You still need to make good choices. My sister also had the surgery May 2009 and is now under 150 lbs!! I believe she started around 270. She knows that it will probably go up a little and she'll find and maintain a happy weight but both were successful and the best thing either of them could do for themselves. They are happy and healthy! Good luck and congrats on the engagement!

Is it gastric bypass or banding?  My friend's cousin who was extremely obese had the band and she lost over 100 pounds in just one year.
