So I went paleo a month ago and in the first three weeks lost 10 lbs. A week ago I noticed that the scale went up three lbs and I realized that I was bloated because I’m due for my period on Friday. Yup, it’s Wednesday now and no period. And I’m not pregnant. What the hell is going on? I would have thought if I was going to miss a period, which I know happens with weight loss, that I wouldn’t have period symptoms. Along with the bloating, I had a world-class meltdowns this weekend which unfortunately are somewhat normal around that time of the month.
Anyone go through this?

Diet changes and weight loss can throw off the length of your cycle as well as cause you to skip your period altogether. Losing 10 pounds in 3 weeks sounds unhealthy unless you are very heavy to start with- that could be stressing your body.

@coastalbee88: You’re right. Honestly, it never really FELT unhealthy as when I switched to only paleo foods my appetite dropped dramatically so I never felt like I was starving myself or anything.
I’ll probably try to monitor my calories to make sure they’re not too low & drink more water to get this bloating to go away.

When I started training for a marathon, my period cycles got longer, and now i am at 31 day cycles instead of 28. When I was doing intense bikram yoga multiple times a week in addition to that, i was at 35. I think as long as your body fat is normal and you are taking in a healthy amount of fats and calories you should be okay. Paleo itself won’t make you lose your period, but drastic weight loss or being underweight can. Its only a few days late…maybe its just taking longer this time.
