When I first joined in 2004, I went to meetings. And I’m glad I did. I had never "dieted" before and there was so much information, so much to learn, I would have been overwhelmed trying to navigate it on my own.

I reached my goal and then just maintained on my own after that, using everything I learned.

After moving in with my fiance, I gained back a few pounds so I joined WW again. But since I knew how the plan worked, I did it online. And I LOVED IT. E-tools is great. And the iPhone app is even greater. Really makes it easy to track on the go.

I was back at my goal weight in no time.

Having said that, I think it might be worth it to go to a few meetings at first, just to get the hang of it, have someone available when you need help/advice, etc. And then you can switch to just e-tools.

After I got the hang of the plan, I found the meetings to be mostly useless except for the accountability factor of weigh-ins.

I’ve done both and had success with both!  I used the meetings while I was in undergrad and had success.  Now I am in my last year of law school and am trying to lose that last 20-30 pounds, and am doing online only.  I’m doing really well, and have been using the plan for about 5 weeks.  This works better for me because I don’t have time, and I get really motivated by seeing the graphs and stuff online that show me my success.

I think you can have success either way!

@jindc: If you pay monthly (rather then weekly) you get both.  If you’re going to go to meetings, I recommend doing this because e-tools is so helpful.  I cook a weight watchers recipe every night for dinner (or every couple nights because of leftovers) and it makes it SO easy to track since it tells you how many points per serving!  I still track in a notebook though, writing it down works better for me.

I go to meetings and I don’t think I would be as successful without the accountability of a meeting.  But, I wouldn’t be able to do it without e-tools!

I’ve only ever used online. First time around I lost 20lbs.

Then I slacked off…  I recommitted recently (first without signing up, and then finally signing up last week) and I’ve lost 7lbs since September. 5 in the last 3 weeks.

@jindc: I haven’t found a recipe I haven’t liked actually! And fi likes them too, but he has been losing weight so he has to eat bigger lunch, bigger portion of dinner, and dessert!

@MandaMack: I agree, their recipes are so good. I have a great chicken enchilada recipe that tastes SO decadent but really isn’t bad for you.

@jindc:omg I totally felt the same way about Sparkpeople. I felt like it was giving me the wrong kind of inspiration. Not that it was wrong, just not the type I was looking for!

I plan on trying online after the first of the year. I’d love to start now but A) I don’t have the money for it, any extra money I do have I’ve been putting towards Christmas, and fiance’s 30th bday which is coming up soon, and B) it’s almost cookie baking time..and I want to start during a time period where I have less temptation around!

Good luck to you though! Hopefully I can come back with a success story!

@jindc: Whoops! You did already say you are vegetarian. I’ll look through some of my saved ones and let you know what I find.

@jindc: I really like doing big salads. Usually iceberg, feta, avocado, mushrooms, cucumbers, red onion.

As for soup. I made a GREAT WW soup a few nights ago.

1 medium onion (chopped)

1 stalk celery (chopped)

3 medium potatoes (peeled and cubed)

1 1/2 lbs broccoli florets

6 cups broth (I used homemade turkey broth, but veggie broth would be fine)

1 c skim milk

a few dashes of hot sauce

(I also added garlic)

Boil broth in a bot.

Add all veggies (onion, celery, broccoli, potatoes)

Simmer covered until veggies are mash-able

Puree w/ immersion blender (or by transferring batches to a blender/food processer)

Add 1 c milk & hot sauce.

Super easy, super good, and FULL of veggies.
