Alright, so, hubby and I decided to “see what happens” and stopped using contraception(condoms) a few weeks ago. I haven’t been on on BC(Nuvaring) since July. So, my period is usually like clockwork-it shows up either 17th or 18th of every month, and lasts 5 days(gradually becomes heavy on the first 2, and then tapers off). AF showed up on the 18th this month, but right off the bat, I had really bad back pain, but not the usual cramps in my lower abdomen. Anyways, it started off normal, but lasted only a day and a half(barely). This has never happened before. Before I got AF, I was having some strange symptoms. I had mild heartburn, back pain, MAJOR fatigue, and I was super emotional. It was like my PMS symptoms were all amplified. Also, I was walking through the food aisle at Target a few days ago and thought I was going to vomit from the smell of all the food. I attributed that to having clear sinuses for the first time in months, but who knows.
I took a digital pregnancy test on the day I got AF, but it was negative. I guess my question is, could this have been a miscarriage or possibly implantation bleeding? I will be making an appointment with my doctor on Monday, but until then, I was wondering if anyone could venture some advice on to what’s going on? Has this happened to anyone else?

@PakiBee03: You know, something similar and very strange happened to me recently. I REALLY thought I might be pregnant since I was having some crazy symptoms that I never get with PMS. Days of light cramping and fullness, nausea, some heartburn (which I never get period!), sensation of a lump in my throat, even things like my pee smelling funny and having super heightened emotions. This lasted for about a week, and then bam- AF shows up and I feel normal again. (
The fact that FI and I had a sorta maybe oops last month too made me think that this could be IT!! Guess not though- AF has made her presence known (and still being felt today :/)
I’d be curious to know what your doctor thinks… this whole crazy week has made me want to look into charting so I know what the heck’s going on!!

It may have been what’s called a chemical pregnancy, a very early miscarriage. Most women wouldn’t even know they were pregnant because their period comes pretty much on time or a little bit late. Digital tests aren’t the most sensitive, so if you’re really concerned that it was implantation and you might still be pregnant, take a First Response Early Result test. If you were pregnant and had a chemical, there would have been very little to no hCG in your system by the time your period started. If it was implantation bleeding, hCG wouldn’t show up for a few days after that. If it was, you MIGHT get something on an FRER today but I’d probably just wait until your docs appt on Monday and ask for bloodwork. Good luck, either way, I hope you get your BFP soon!

@PakiBee03: digital tests are not that sensitive and could give you a false negative. To be sure you can test with a first response early Result. You should then know for sure. how lonf after your “period” did you test? It takes about 2 or 3 daya for implantation to show up on a early test. Longer for a digital.

@kestane: Omg. I totally had the “lump in my throat” feeling, too. And that NEVER happens to me. Maybe I’m just on high alert with everything, because it’s the first time in my life that I’ve stopped using protection.
@BellaDee: I tested on the morning of the day I got my “period”.
@jny1179: Thanks! I’ll see when my doc can fit me in. I think at this point, bloodwork is the way to go, but I suppose taking another test in the meantime wouldn’t hurt.
Update:(TMI ALERT) Yesterday, I had weird brown discharge, and then this morning I had a little bit of bright red spotting, and then reddish pink mucus. All this TTC stuff is more stressful than I anticipated! This AF drama has made me realize how much I do want a baby. I think for next month I’m going to invest in an OPK.

An update for anyone wondering. It turns out I have strep throat, which is what threw off my AF. We did another test to make sure I wasn’t pregnant before starting me on an antibiotic. Mystery solved!

@PakiBee03: Sorry to hear about the strep. At least now you know what was happening! I’d be confused too.
