@MrsEdamame:  Haha I just had to click on this topic to see what it was all about.  It’s crazy that your husband’s mom is only 6 years older than your sister … And that his stepfather is slightly younger than your sister’s husband!

I don’t have any stories like this, but I do have some interesting birthday facts involving my family and my fiance’s family.  (Okay, they’re not that interesting, but we think it’s kind of funny/weird.)

– Everyone in our immediate families has a birthday between the months of June and November. This includes my uncle, first cousin (his daughter), and my maternal grandparents (I have a tiny family and I consider them to be my “immediate” family).  This also includes his sister-in-law, his younger brother’s fiancee, and his two nieces.

– My maternal grandfather and my fiance share the same birthday.

– My first cousin and my fiance’s older brother share the same birthday (different years).

– My fiance’s younger brother is exactly one year and one day older than me.

I think we’ll have to plan out our kids so they fit within this weird birthday thing.  Haha.

@MrsEdamame:  Last summer I married a man 15.5 years younger than I am. His parents had him when they somewhat young (25). So, my Mother-In-Law & Father-In-Law are only 9 years older than I am. I’m 54, Darling Husband is 38, Mother-In-Law & Father-In-Law (divorced) are 63. Father-In-Law has also become one of my best friends and is living with his Girlfriend, a woman 18 months younger than I am.  My DH’s grandmother is only a year older than my mother. I have a 16 yr old daughter who I had when I was 37, and a 22 yr old son who I had at 31. It’s all good and it all works. How many trips you’ve made around the sun doesn’t really matter.

I had a friend whose mom had 8 siblings. All girls and one boy. The youngest sibling (my friend’s uncle) was a year younger than her! So she was older than her uncle. My friend’s mom and her grandma were pregnant at around the same time for this to happen (mom and daughter like in Father of the Bride 2). She also had an aunt that was only a few years older than her so they were more like friends or sisters. Now they’re both married, the aunt already has a baby and I’m sure my friend will be pregnant soon, so their kids will be more like cousins than anything! But really the baby is my friend’s first cousin! So confusing, but it works – and it’s less confusing if you knew them in person.

My older brother (only a small age difference) is living with a woman who is closer to my parents’ age than his… and she is in fact *older* than my husband’s parents. No judgement, but it’s kind of funny to us. My mother in law also has a habit of becoming interested in younger men, so that there have been times when her date for an event is only a little older than us.

Not in my family, but I had a family full of odd ages when I taught middle school.

Two of my students were uncle and nephew.  The younger boy was the uncle of the student who was two years older.  The younger boy’s sister was middle-aged and the mother of the older boy.  When we met the younger boy’s father, I was sure it had to be his grandfather.  As it turned out, it was the father (on his 4th marriage) of the younger boy (and grandfather of the older boy). According to the younger boy, he was, at age 12, not only an uncle to a 14-year-old, but a great uncle to a 5-year-old, as another sibling had grandkids by this point.

Yeah. It was confusing.

My mom’s family also has some weird age-related family relationships.

My mom’s biological father got re-married to his 2nd wife, a woman many years younger than him; in fact his 2nd wife is the same age as my mom.  They had a daughter together who is my half Aunt.  I am 32 and my Aunt is 30, my Aunt is 2 years younger than me.

I also use to work with these three women at one of my previous jobs; they had quite the tangled family tree.  Two of the women were half sisters (they had the same mother but different fathers).  The 3rd woman was their cousin (their mothers were sisters) but the 3rd woman was also a half sister with one of the other women as well since they also both had the same father.  Try drawing that family tree!

Short version: Darling Husband is the same age as my uncle.

Long version: My dad and his sister (my aunt) are 18 years apart. My aunt and I are 9 years apart. I married someone 4 years older than me and she married someone 5 years younger than her. And so, my uncle is DH’s age. My aunt and I grew us more like siblings than aunt/niece, but I LOVE freaking out my aunt’s Darling Husband by calling him my uncle. 😀

My Fiance is closer in age to my mom than to me. He’s 11 years older than me, and just 9 years younger than my mother. He is also her best friend’s brother.
