So, I’m not a particuarly musical person (music was much more of a big deal to me when I was a teenager), though for specific wedding songs, I’ve wanted the songs to feel like the RIGHT songs. And so far I feel happy with the list I’ve figured out (and whenever I mention it to my fiance, he says sure that sounds good).
Anywho, I’ve been trying to think of a father/daughter dance song. My dad and I have had a good relationship (well still do), though it’s definitely not a “daddy’s little girl” type thing. And when I think of all those sweet more sentimental songs that are about fathers and daugthers, thats the kind of relationship that comes to mind, and doesn’t feel quite right as a choice.
So, listening to my mp3 player earlier, and Lean on Me came on. And I thought, hey…this would be a nice song. Though it’s about getting support from friends or whatever, I feel like the whole idea of being there/being supportive, etc., is how my dad has been for me…he’s always been there to support me with the various things I’ve done, and always been encouraging, which seems to be the message of the song.
So…is that too weird of a song choice? I know it’s not at all traditional, and really not father/daughter specific. But i like the message of the song. Any feedback much appreciated! 🙂

I think that would be a really great choice – go for it!

Not weird!! I think that’s a great song.
If it makes you feel better our father/daughter dance is probably going to be Over the Rainbow, deff not a father/daughter specific song!

I am not having a typical father daughter song AT ALL! I think we might chose Paul Simon’s “You can call me Al.” Both of my sisters danced to similar non-traditional songs as well – The Bare Necessities and Soul Man. It was a big hit at the wedding, everybody loved it, especially my dad. Pick a song that when you hear it, you think of your dad.

I’m the same way. I love my dad and we get along great but i am definitely far from Daddy’s Little Girl. My mom wanted to use “I Loved Her First” but the words were too mushy i thought and didn’t really pertain to us. I like the song “Walk With You” that i think is good for both of us. Its kinda mushy, but more about me and my FI. Take a listen when you can.

I actually really love that song for a father/daughter dance.

Thanks everyone for the “go for its” 🙂 Makes me feel more okay in this decision. I guess I just need to run it by my dad, see what he thinks!
@TinyTina: Awww what a sweet choice of first dance song! My friend played that as her “exiting” song (sorry the proper word is escaping me) and it was really pretty. Great choice!
@Mrs. Cooper: I love the songs your sisters chose! Those sound like such fun dances to watch! I have to say I don’t know the song you want (I need to brush up on my Paul Simon) though it sounds like you picked a song with importance to you, which I guess is the point right?
@Kanebaby: I’m glad to know that you’re in the same place with the “mushiness.” I listened to the song you linked…very sweet. I think that’s a great song without being too overly sentimental. Very lovely choice 🙂
