Welcome bag headache

posted 2 months ago in New York - Upstate NY

I just started doing a little online research for the maps/brochures we should include in our welcome bags and discovered that the three towns where events are happening are in three different counties: Ithaca (where we live; rehearsal dinner and welcome party; Tompkins County), Alpine (the wedding venue and where some guests are staying; Schuyler County), and Elmira (where most guests are staying because it's between the two; Chemung County). Oy.

I'd like to go to chambers of commerce to get maps, but the Tompkins County C. of C. site looks like they might charge for that stuff. (If they're free, I'll just get all three.) I know I can deal with this when the offices are open on Tuesday, but does anyone have experience with Finger Lakes area stuff like this to keep me from freaking out before then?  I was really hoping not to have to spend money on the maps and brochures. If anyone knows of somewhere I could get an all-encompassing South Finger Lakes map or something like that, that would be perfect.

GorgesViola,

I was at the NYS Fair in Syracuse today and the Dept. of Tourism had lots of great maps and brochures from regions all throughout New York, including the Finger Lakes region... and they were all FREE!  Check out www.iloveny.com and maybe they can help you out.  Good luck. :o)

Yay, thank you SO much!!! You had awesome weather for the fair - I really wanted to go but forced myself to power-clean my closet instead.  Hope you had a great time and thanks again!

**Update**: I called the I <3 NY office, who were very nice and redirected me to the Finger Lakes office. I asked them if they had brochures for sale in bulk (or free), and the woman is sending me 100 at no charge! Woohoo!
