I've been to several out of town weddings where I've stayed at a hotel and I've NEVER gotten an OOT bag. I think that the only people who know about OOT bags are brides-to-be and newlyweds.
So in a word, no. They're not a necessity.
Not at all!
I don't know anyone who has seen one in real life... people only know about them in internet world of weddings.
No way! We had mostly out of town guests and I had no time to put anything together. I agree with Future Mrs Martin that no one in the real word has really seen them.
haha...true...I got one once...I can say the bottles of water came in handy the next morning though......think I 'm gonna skip it then! Put that money towards a nicer favor to give to everyone after the wedding!
I wouldn't worry about it. I think a lot of things like this are big in the online wedding world, but in real life most people probably haven't even heard of them ;)
I've never heard of OOT bags until I found the world of wedding blogs. And all the weddings that I go to I never expect to have one waiting for me at the hotel. Honestly, people won't care.
I'm just writing a note and having some homemade cookies in each room. Our hotel doesn't charge to deliver the treats though.
I have actually seen OOT bags at 3 different weddings. So yes other people DO know about them!! While I dont think theyre totally necessary I think they are a very nice touch - especially if people are traveling and they get to the hotel and its nice to have a little snack and a bottle of water and a welcome note. It makes guests feel appreciated and like they are an integral part of your wedding.
My mom seems to think they are a must. I had no intentions of doing it and told her if it's so important to her, she can be in charge of it! haha
I don't think they are absolutely neccessary, but they are a thoughtful and nice way to welcome your out of town guests, and I know they appreciate them. That being said, if they aren't in your budget, I don't think your guests will miss them or think less of you, if you don't provide them.
I've only ever gotten one when I was a bridesmaid or FI was a groomsman.
Wow. They charge to deliver the bags? I don't think it's a neccessity to have OOT bags for guests. We did have them made for our wedding b/c all of the OOT guests traveled primarily from the East Coast to Michigan for our wedding. I just tipped the bellhops $20 and the OOT bag were delivered to the room with the guests luggage. I guess I got out cheap :)
I've never received any either! However, if I were to get one, I think it would be such an awesome gesture. I agree though, if it's not really in the budget, or if you could use that money some where else, just skip it. I think it's nice enough to just provide them with a room for the night.
It's definitely not a necessity! The only real necessary things are the bride, groom, and officiant! So if it's stressing you out or no time for it, I say forget it!
i've only been to one wedding that gave out OOT bags in our hotel room ( included water, gum, and wedding itinerary). All the other weddings that were out of town didn't have one and as a guest i didn't even think twice.
i think they are a thoughtful gesture, but by all means are at the bottom of my must have list. :) skip it!

Initially I was thinking, I would put together little welcome bags for the guest staying at the hotel..maybe some snacks and water in it...so not a huge cost but with 25 rooms, it could add up depending on what I put in thre..not to mention The W Hotel charges $4 to deliver EACH bag...
We are having a rehearsal dinner that night (night before the wedding) to welcome everyone...
Does anyone really care if they get a welcome bag at the hotel?
