I would love to I am all about experiences and this is always something I wanted to do.
@future - really? oh that's cool to hear. it was really fun and very beautiful inside - although we got very drunk!! and i am also about once in a lifetime type of experiences
I would love it!!! However, the everyone doesn't fit issue worries me. What would everyone else be doing? Is there a regular bar outside the ice bar? And how would people know that they need to "take turns"? What if someone never gets to go in?
@noni- this was worrying me too. there actually is a regular lounge outside of the ice bar and we would have a private area there - the people who run the bar would have a list and my understanding was they would call people's names to get in and then groups of 10-20 could go in together.
my wedding will be very small (50 guests or so probably)
when i emailed them they actually thought we wanted to get married in the ice bar! that sounds cool but brrrr!
If it's a 'welcome event' people will probably filter in and out anyway so you would probably be fine. I think it's REALLY cool that you thought of this- I always wanted to go to an ice bar and I'm dying to go to the one in Vegas.
You might want to have a back up plan in mind in case it gets too crowded for everyone- maybe there is a bar nearby that you could all move to? Or could you schedule your event to start earlier in the evening when it's not too busy so that everyone could fit and you wouldn't have the normal Vegas crowds yet?
I think that sounds crazy fun! some people may not want to go in (older guests maybe?) so you should be ok! I think it just sounds awesome tho
@miss root - thanks! you kow, you guys can come if you wanna be in vegas oct 1 hahaha!
really we thought of it b/c the bar actually originated in new zealand and that is where my partner comes from so it kind of brings a little of his background into the event. new zealand in vegas, who'd have thought that possible?
the lounge area outside the ice bar (that is also part of minus5) is pretty large - i think 150 fit there so that wasn't cocerning me as much as if people would like the event and also the flow of peeps in an out of the ice bar.
@ejs - yeah this is also a concern but i guess anyone who doesn't want to go in can hang out in the lounge that is not made of ice. the older guests brings up a good point though as we may have a few.
i have a few family members who will probably hate the ice bar but these two hate everything so i am not going to worry about them.
i think it would be something fun and different. and i actually like that there would be a lounge, for people like me who hate cold!
Geat idea, Wildstyle! It looks like fun & as long as there's a lounge area outside of the ice bar, I think everyone will love it - as long as you can provide some apps. I just wouldn't want to have people drinking w/o at least some food. I hate being cold, but I would go in for a little while just for the experience - and nothing's better than cold vodka :-))
I think I posted on someone else suggesting this- we visited last month and had fun. Would this be like the night everyone gets in? Or before the actual ceremony? I would worried about people freezing in dresses or wrinkling their nice pants shoving into boots if it was before the ceremony.
I think it would be very neat, but knowing what we paid- maybe better for just your bridal party or an after party with fewer people. Have fun though- Vegas is great!
I think it looks fun! If it's a welcome event, and people are flitering in and out to the main lodge you should be fine. But what about persons under 21?
I think it sounds like a great time. Is there a bar nearby that everyone can meet up a before and after going into the ice bar? That way, you can keep everyone kind of together, even when they're not inside?
Wildstyle, I've been to a few of these ice bars in NZ and they are awesome and the drinks are always yummy. I think it's a great idea, esp with the outside bar for people to come and go from. People will probably enjoy being somewhere cool as a change from the hot vegas heat. And your FI will feel like he's back in Christchurch hehe.
Maybe they could give everyone in your party special bands or something so they could go in and out. I am not sure how great of an ice breaker it will be if in the middle of conversation, almost half the crowd is called into the other room.
I heard of this place from someone at work, and I think it sounds like so much fun! I would love it as a guest, plus makes for great pictures and memories! No one will forget that one.
This sounds awesome! I love it! You should do it for sure if it is in the budget!
I think it is awesome! I would love this as a guest. Plus, it will probably be a first time experience for most and so memorable!
Oh guys thank you! Glad to see so much love for the idea!! So I have to make it happen I think!
@mrsbradtobe - this is actually a branch of the same ice bar that they have in New Zealand. Owned by the same guy who I met at the Vegas one (super nice guy btw) who is from Christchurch! I don't think they have one in CHCH but my FI has been to the one in Queenstown. I thought it was a perfect way to bring a little NZ to Vegas!

Hi bees,
We are having a vegas dw and thinking of hosting a welcome drinks event in an ice bar.We actually visited there and had a great time - the drinks are very good too. Do you think you would enjoy this as a guest - each guest would get 1 or 2 drinks on us plus coats and boots to go into the ice lounge and photos and maybe a few appetizers depending on how many peeps we get.
The main issues are a - it's expensive for what you get (though within budget) and maybe drinks at a regular bar would be better?
Also, not all of the guests will fit in the ice bar all together - people will have to go in and out - but maybe this is good for "breaking the ice" so to speak?
Would you like to visit something like this at a DW - here is the link to the place if you are interested http://www.minus5experience.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=45&Itemid=42&location=lasvegas
thank you!!
