Hi other RI brides.
I live in CA but I will be having my wedding in NPT in June.
Hi! I'm another Newport bride, but we live in Boston. Our wedding is now less than a year away (May 15, 2009). No longer do I have to specify 2009 when someone asks me when I'm getting married! :)
Mleeee, where are you getting married?
Hi LNickle
The ceremony and reception will be held at this private dining club in Middletown which is right over the boarder. It is right on the point, so it looks out to all the mansions.
Where are you having yours!
Our wedding is at St. Mary's in Bristol, about 25 mins outside newport. Unfortunately, we couldn't find a catholic church in newport that would marry us (parishoners only). Our reception is on Goat Island in Newport at Belle Mer. It's on the water, and overlooks the Newport Bridge. Very excited!!
Ooooo...Belle Mer....color me jealous!
And I have such a special place in my heart for Middletown.
Congrats to you both!
PS - since you are both destination brides, what are your plans for getting ready the day of, make up, hair, etc?
The reception wil be at Aldrich Mansion in Warwick, RI!!! Woo hoo...where they filmed Meet Joe Black....it's gorgeous!! CAn't wait!!! I live in CT...but I will be getting ready at my mama's...![]()
Newport is where I grew up, so I will be staying a my family's home and getting ready there.
My fiance's parents actually live in Narrangansett, and his mom works at Spa Vure, which does hair and makeup. I'm not sure yet if I'm just going to get a hotel room for the couple of nights before, or just stay with his parents, but either way, I'm having a lady from spa vure come and do my hair and another one is doing makeup for my entire bridal party. I highly recommend them!
One thing I haven't figured out yet is a DOC. I definitely think I'm going to need one because I have several DIY projects, and I'm a perfectionist -- I'm scared that without one, I'm going to want to do it all myself! :) Any suggestions??
Woohoo for RI!!
Our ceremony & reception are at the Roger Williams Casino & Bandstand in Providence in October =)
We are doing a downcity Providence wedding. The ceremony will be at the Providence Biltmore and the reception to follow at the Federal Reserve.
Oooo the Reserve is beautiful wuerin! We went to a wedding there last summer =)
Hi All. Im getting married in RI next Aug at the Towers in Narragansett. Seems so far away!
hey alicialynn1. Welcome to the hive. August 09 might seem far away, but my suggestion is to get your vendors set up before the 1 year mark. That way, you won't have as much competition!!
Best of luck!
Ohhh, I love the Towers alicialynn! It's such a beautiful and unique venue!
I feel your pain about the long wait. We were engaged in Oct 07 and our wedding is May 09, but trust me -- now that we're finally under the one year mark, having already found my reception site, church, florist, photographer, and dress is a HUGE weight off my shoulders. Everyone was amazed that I was doing things so "early" but you have your pick of the best that way! :)
Hi, RI bees. My boyfriend and I live in NYC but are getting married 9/6 at my aunt's house in Middletown.
We've got all the big stuff done, I just need a hair and possibly a makeup person and a florist for my bouquet.
We sent out our invites yesterday (and some people already got them!) so it's feeling really real, and exciting, now!
So now I have EVERYTHING booked! Im just doing the little stuff right now - DIY programs, table numbers, etc.
Hi everyone - long time reader, first time poster. ![]()
I am originally from NY, but have lived here for three years now. (Has it been that long already?!) My FI is a RI native.
I just put the check in the mail for the reception hall, so we're good to go.
We will be getting married on May 30th and the ceremony will be held on the Newport Naval Station at the Chapel of Hope. (Just met our priest and LOVE him!) and the reception will follow at the Rotunda at Easton Beach. We are doing a lobsterboil. Very excited! FI says he can't wait to see me in a wedding dress and lobster bib!
Just put the deposit down on the rehearsal dinner site also. We will be having it at the Officers Club, also on the Newport Naval Station.
With a 15 month deployment under our belt, and many other obstacles overcome, we are getting excited and looking forward to our life together. In addition to blending our lives, we each have a son from previous relationships who are exactly one year apart. Just call us the Brady bunch! ![]()
Thanks for listening, and congratulations to all the RI brides out there!
oooh! I just went to a wedding at the Chapel of Hope 2 weeks ago, the reception was at the officer's club and the rehersal dinner was at the bowling alley - so much fun and I'm a terrible bowler but it was a great way to make friends before the wedding. You picked a great location, the view of the Newport bridge at sunset from the deck was amazing. Good luck!
I'm planning a long distance RI wedding for Sept 2010, church in Lincoln, venue is still to be determined but we will most likely need a caterer, any suggestions?
Hi there slicey19, we are a RI videography company and the very first wedding we shot as a new company was in Bristol, Harborview Inn I think, and they had Blackestone Caterers...seriously...it was in the top 3 best meals I've EVER had. It was buffet style and they even had a chowder station - which I didn't get a chance to try - and they provide the base for the chowder and you pick fish, lobster, crab, clams, etc to go into it.
They also had these beef tenderloin kabobs...they tasted like they were infused with black pepper and rosemary... It was delicious! I'm almost salivating right now just thinking about it!
My fiancee and I haven't really decided where we will get married yet, but if we do decide to do a RI wedding, Blackstone is at the top of the list!

Good luck with the rest of your planning!
any rhodey brides still out there?!?!
We are getting married at a church in Providence, and our reception is at The Westin Providence in July 2009 (7 months away).
Any tips? Vendor Referrals? Inexpensive but amazing DOCs? Pics of weddings at the westin providence?!
I feel like I am at a huge convention and I am the only one from my town! Where are all the rhodey brides!
Im a RI bride! We are getting married in Newport. So far for vendors, we are using Bellevue Productions for the video (They have a HUGE discount going on right now, we just saved $1,000 off our package), David Bibeault for photos, he has amazing quality and the lowest price we have seen. That is it so far, but we are super budget concious, so if anyone knows any vendors at great deals, I'd love to know as well!
Especially DJs.
hey Newport Nuptials.. I've actually been reading your offsite blog! We are using Anthony Crocenzi as the DJ for our wedding, who has gotten nothing but amazing reviews from all my friends and vendors. He is very professional and I will let you know in July how he was! (I think your wedding is after mine?)
I'll have to check him out! Thanks! We aren't for almost teo years, so we have some time! I think you messaged me or commented, because I thought the name rhodeygirl looked familiar, Sabrina right?
Thanks Vaclindo for the feedback, that's the best review I've heard and makes me want to check them out, especially the chowder station!
I'm also a RI bride and I know what aou mean by feeling like the only one at the convention. I'll be here for awhile as my wedding is Sept. 2010. Thus far, we haven't booked anything. We'll have the reception in Narragansett but can't book the venue until Jan. 2nd and everything else follows. I'm most concerned about a good caterer and getting amazing photos (photo journal and posed) w/o spending a lot of money on a photographer.
Thus far, I've bought my dress, flower pots for centerpieces, ties for the groom and his attendants and am hopefully getting favors today. Thanks to Mrs. Corn's inspirational post we're doing beach sand in Christmas ornaments and using sand off the beach where our reception will take place which makes me really excited!
It's nice to see RI active :)
Slicey...I'm, truly honored. Truly. The reason why I ever applied to be a bee was because I wanted to just inspire one person with some of the work I did for our wedding. I am glad to have inspired you.
Oh..and as for an AWESOME DOC...Colleen Kimmel with Classic Weddings (www.classicweddingsne.com) was phenomenal! I mean...blow my socks off, phenomenal. I think I wrote about her when I first hired her here: http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/07/15/the-best-money-weve-spent-thus-far/
I can't even tell you how great she was...let me know if you would like to know more and I will send some info your way.

I live in RI but we are getting married in Walpole, MA at Raffael's. We are getting married 2/20/10 but I have just started planning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Rhodeygirl, I'm also using Anthony Crocenzi. I would love to hear any good input about him. I'm planning from the NYC area and he was recommended by my photographer, Krista Handfield. I have spoken to him a few times and he's been great, but as with most things about our wedding, its a leap of faith. I'm PSYCHED to hear about someone else using him. HAve you ever heard him at a wedding? What have you heard about him? What do people like about him? What kind of weddings were they? At this point, its a done deal, but some confirmation of our decision would be SO great!!!!
My wedding is in May and the planning is pretty much done, so if I can help out at all, or recommend any vendors, please let me know!
Hi everyone! I'm a newbie :) and a Newport bride. I live in NY and my fiance lives in Boston. We're getting married on 5/22/10 at the Island House at Belle Mer. We still have a long way to go!
Right now, we're looking into bakers. I love cakes so I am so excited to meet with the bakers for some tasting
! So far, we're meeting with Sin Desserts, Corby Cakes n Cookies, Diane's Delectables, and Konditor Meister. Any feedback on these bakers would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Aylee Bits! Welcome and congrats!! I'm also planning from the NYC area, so I know what its like to be planning from a distance. I saw that you are considering Sin Desserts. We are using Jennifer (from Sin) to make cupcakes for our wedding. The samples she gaves us were amazing and she's been great to work with! Our wedding is in May, so most of the planning is done. I'd be happy to share any information (or pitfalls) I have, so please let me know if I can be of any help!
Thank you RIbride! It's nice to hear about Jennifer from Sin. I'm also in contact with her. I'm not enjoying planning from a distance. Fortunately my fiance lives in Boston so when I'm up in Boston, we just drive to Newport for a day and go back.
At RIBride- my sister is using Konditor Meister, I went on the tastign and their flavros are delicious, especially the banana filling! Their prices were a lot more reasonable than I expected, too!
Hello Ladies!
I am a RI bride, I am having our wedding and reception at Blithewold in Bristol (my hometown) I have been planning this wedding from Hawaii, where I had been living and now Virginia, where we just moved. I am doing this all myself, no planner so about now I am starting to stress lol. I know there isnt too much left to do.. but theres alot of small things! ahhh! Our wedding is in August.
Hi Everyone!
I live in Los Angeles, but grew up in RI and am getting married in Newport in August 2010! Planning a wedding long distance is SO hard.
My ceremony is at St. Barnabas in Portsmouth at 2pm, but then our reception isn't until 6pm at The Officers Club. I am so worried about that 3 hour chunk of time in between. Any suggestions of where to send my guests?
Also, my photographer is a friend from L.A. so she is not too familiar with picture spots. Any ideas of places to go for the wedding party for pictures? I've heard Second Beach and The Elms so far. Does anyone know if you need to reserve picture time at The Elms? What about a picture spot if it rains?

While Mr Corn and I live in Boston, our wedding was held at Fort Adams in Newport, RI, so I figured I would start a thread here to welcome all the RI brides. Of course, you are more than welcome to hop on up to the Boston Boards as well.
Looking forward to meeting all of you.
