We are expecting our first child in June. We have both agreed on a girls name-

    • Sophie Marie Flavel, my Mum who has passed away was Ann-marie so the Marie was a way to include her name.

As for a boy we are undecided, we have decided on a middle name my grandfather's name Theodore. My favourite names are (in order of preference):

    • Christian Theodore Flavel
    • William Theodore Flavel - There were lots of William's in my fam
    • Henry Theodore Flavel - nick name would be Harry
    • Campbell Theodore Flavel - My husbands fav uncle is Campbell ( I adore him too-he's still with us)
    • Hudson Theodore Flavel - My Grandmother's maiden name was Hudson.
    • Edward Theodore Flavel

My husband hates all of them, his one and only suggestion is

    • Lachlan Theodore Flavel

What do you all think? And do you have any other suggestions?

As much as I like William Theodore Flavel, their initials would be WTF.

I am leaning toward Hudson Theodore Flavel.  I don't know why.

I like Henry, no reason I just think its a cute name for a little boy (and it ages up well)

Sophie Marie is such a lovely name, and so sweet that it's after your mom.

I like William Theodore or Henry Theodore best - they have the nicest flow imo

My husband's name is William, so admittedly I'm a little partial, but I think it's a timeless, solid name for a little boy.

I really like your girls name.  Very pretty!

For your boys name, I think you need a relatively simple first name or it becomes too much of a mouthful.

I like Henry Theodore and Edward Theodore.

    Other suggestions to consider:

    • Evan Theodore
    • Grant Theodore
    • Blake Theodore

@panterapeach: Thank goodness you caught that, I odnt think I ever would have. My DH hates William because of Willy, which i think is dumb, I don't know of any William's that are ever paid out about being called Willy, but so glad you picke up on WTF!

Seems like Hudson is a fav! which is nice as it has a sentimental element too!

Henry Theodore is my favorite, hands down. It's adorable yet classic and will grow up well.

I do have a soft-spot for Scottish names though, so I also really like your hubby's suggestion of Lachlan.

I like Henry, but not with the nickname Harry because all I can see is the nickname growing up  (with the last name Flavel) is Harry Navel.  But I think in weird ways like that.

    Lachlen is interesting.  Very unique

I LOVE the old classic boy's names. Henry is great, and personally I think Harry is a cute nickname. I like Edward a lot too because that was going to be my name if I was a boy :) I would definitely call your child Eddie Teddy hehe. I know a Hudson and he's called Hud, so if you don't mind that nickname...

You guys have a great set of names there, good luck choosing! My official vote is for Edward.

Campbell Flavel is really hard to say for some reason. Even Cam Flavel doesn't roll off the tongue.

I like Christian, Edward and Lachlan!

My DH had explained why he doesn't like Hudson, he went to school with a James Hudson who he wasn't too fond of and everyone called him Huddy, it just reminds him of that guy.

@kerensa: Your right it doesn't flow well.

@ananeele: "Harry Navel" oh dear I never would have thought of that, that's really funny def wouldn't want my son to be teased.

It seems like noone is too keen on Christian which is good to know. Henry and Lachlan seem to be the front runners, although Harry Navel has put me off Henry so i am really warming to Lachlan.

    Sophie Marie, so pretty!!

And I absolutely love the name Theodore, it's such a strong name...DH and I decided on that name for a boy probably 2 days after I got my BFP, but that aside--I think I like Hudson Theodore the best, it's kind of new with old/traditional :)

However, with my first son we thought about the name Hudson (it seems like you and I have similar taste in names!) but a lot of people had negative opinions about that name and felt the need to voice them. The most common thing we heard was, "Hudson? Like the Hudson river?"

I like all of your names except for Campbell (Ok on it's own, but agree with a PP who said it was hard to say with Flavel).  I think Christian sounds good.

Lachlan isn't bad but I feel like it is sort of hard to say.

    What about Connor?

I love them all.  My only pause with Edward is that I bet there are a lot of Edward's being born right now with Twilight.  It's a classic but something to think about.

@simpleandchic: I personally love Christian as a name.  I'm biased because every Christian I met growing up was just hot.  I'm also biased after working with kids the past 2 years and my favorite kids were named Parker, Aiden, and Collin so I like those names too.

Will Lochlan be pronounced Lock-lenn?  I know it's a common last name and some pronounce is lock and some lof

I love Christian and I love Lachlan. The latter is my brother's name only it's spelt the welsh way: Loughlin. I've never met anyone with the same spelling. Christian though, is awesome. It's actually on our list of boys names too. =)

I love the name Lachlen but I understand it's super common is Australia? Is it too common or is that not a worry? That is the name my sister is planning for a boy - they live in the US currently, but her hubby is Australian. If Hudson is out, then Henry and Campbell would be my next favorites. Really, I like them all (except, William because of the initials).

My favourite is Hudson out of those, though it doesn't really matter what I think!  However,  too many 'L's could make it awkward to pronounce.
