I'm petite as well (5'1" and a 34D). I also have a strapless with a very minimal sweetheart, like barely even qualifies.
It all depends on your comfort level I suppose...
I'm also a very well endowed petite bride (5', 34FF/G) and I haven't purchased a dress yet, but I will probably want a modified sweetheart to avoid the uniboob effect.
i had my dress modified to just a tiny hint of a sweetheart. i don't think us well-endowed girl look particularly good in a deep sweetheart. when your dress comes in and you go for your first fitting, ask them to pin it into a sweetheart to see what it looks like before altering it. regardless, i wouldn't do a severe sweetheart no matter what.
38 DD here, I chose a gown with straps and a v neck line. The straps make me feel way more secure just because I remember those prom dresses from high school and having to pull them up all night lol. I read somewhere that v necks and sweethearts are good for busty brides because they prevent the uniboob lol. You might want to post a picture of your dress so other bees can get a better idea of what the straight neck line looks like :)
I chose a sweetheart neckline, too. It's sort of a deep one, but instead of going down far, the heart part of it comes up high. I'm not good at explaining, lol. Here's the link to my original post since we can't currently post pictures: http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/i-found-it-2
I definitely had uniboob problems with straight necklines, but a lot of the sweethearts dipped too low for my tastes. This seems like the Goldilocks of chest coverage, lol.
I have a V-neck and then a slight sweetheart on the other. I'm 5'0" 32G so neckline was definitely a concern.
Mine has a very subtle sweetheart. I'm 5'0 and 32dd/ddd depedning on time of the month
it looks decent, but i think a deeper sweetheart would probably been better
edit: it is strapless, but they are big enough that the dress could not physically fall down!
Plus they added some boning to attach the dress to my bustier (and also, the sweetheart is created by pulling the boning through a loop on the bustier, so it is "removable." It's actually pretty cool--it means the dip in the middle stays real close to my skin. I think they will pull it down 1/4 inch more and it will be perfect. Such an easy fix, too!
38DDD sweetheart with straps to hold the girls up, I didn't even look at strapless, I am too busty for that, I would have been hiking them up all night! Wouldn't have been classy
Whew - I thought I was well endowed until I read you ladies posts. :-) I am a 34D and the top of my dress was too tight a few months ago when I bought my dress. I have lost about an inch in the chest since then and am hoping it fits better when I have my first fitting. (It is a sample dress, not custom ordered) Would the slight sweetheart neckline give me a tad more room?
I will post a pic when weddingbee is back up.
Hmmmmm... I've been thinking about this a lot.
Bustier ladies who opted for strapless styles- do you plan on dancing? And if so, are you concerned about them falling out? My mom is under the impression that I will be flashing everyone if I don't have straps, but I don't know that that's ever been a problem in my experience as long as the top fit well enough.
Opinions would be greatly appreciated :)
@MissFish: I've never had issues with a strapless dress falling down (I'm a 38G). I've heard people say it happens to them, but they don't even move on me, really. I think the trick is to just make sure it's tight around your waist to keep it lifted. You can also buy dress tape that will hold things together if you don't feel like you have enough structure.
I'm a 32-36i (depending on weight fluctuation) and I will be rocking a sweetheart.
I'm a 32F, and I went for a sweetheart with v-neck illusion straps (the Pronovias Ronda). Prevented the uniboob and any concerns about futzing with it while dancing.
I'm glad there are other shorties out there with bigger boobs. :) I thought we were rare.
@Miss Fish: My reception dress has thick straps so I'm not bouncing everywhere and flashing everyone. Hollywood tape might help but I'm allergic to the latex in it.
I'm 5'2" 34 D' and I had a minor sweetheart dress. The dress had a corset and I wasnt worried about upseen boobage or the dress falling down :)
I'm no shorty but I am the owner of a pair of 34Ds and am looking at dresses with a slight sweetheart - you get the look without any church-inappropriate exposure. Some of the more prominent sweethearts I tried resulted in some serious (and definitively inappropriate) cleave. I've generally found that the support built into wedding dresses is pretty darn good (i.e., no fear of a "wardrobe malfunction" occurring)!
i left mine straight across to make me look smaller. this will be the first time i will meet most of his family and the first time since ive seen most of mine since puberty lol
I am a 36E and have had my dress modified to a sweetheart neckine and a detachable halterneck strap.
i figured i could go strapless for the ceremony and photographs, then put the straps on for dancing, to keep my ladies safely in my dress! LOL
36DD and when looking at dresses i found i like strapless sweetheart so i know thats what i will be getting!!!
@Miss Fish: The strapless dress won't wall because it is structured and fitted. I'm also wearing a bustier underneath and the seamstress is putting in 3 small pieces of boning that attach it to my dress.
I only have problems with strapless stuff that is stretchy. I think all of us have a big enough rack that a structured dress or dress with stiff fabric physically does not have room to move down and create an embarrboobing scene.
34D here, and I am rocking a true sweetheart neckline. I think they are so flattering! My dress is strapless as well, and I'm not worried about it going anywhere- it's going to fit like a glove! :)
Petite, big boobs, I chose a strapless barely sweetheart neckline. I heard strapless is the best for big boobs. I just better not have back boobs from the tightness of my dress. That's the only reason I didn't want to go strapless. Oh, I guess we're sharing sizes, 38DD. Keep those puppies in!
I'm a 44DDD and I got a halter lol. I was afraid I'd be pulling the dress up all night.

I am a petite, but well endowed bride wondering if I should have my strapless dress altered to a sweetheart neckline or leave it straight. Help me out well endowed bees - what neckline did you wear?
