@Katchin:  I bought my dress at a sample sale and it was a size too small, but I had recently put on some weight that i intended to loose.. I liked the dress and mum cried so I bought it. Since then I lost the weight and put it on but I have serious dress regret because I dont think it suits me :-/ im toying with getting another one, but i plan too loose more weight so i think i will wait, once my body shape has changed again I might fall in love with it. Dont dread it just go for it. Dresses can always be altered, Its ment to be exciting!!! Im sure you will look beautiful! Go try it on and let us know how it all goes!

@Katchin:  I had this EXACT same experience.  I ordered a discontinued style, so the only size I could get was a size or two smaller than what would have been ordered for me otherwise.

Unfortunately the alterations were NOT cheap and in my case, ended up requiring more than just a corset back, although they also told me when I bought it that just a corset back would fix it.  The price I ended up spending was about what I would have spent if I bought the dress regular price (instead of 50% off for a discontinued style and then expensive alterations… ouch).

I know that may not be the most comforting thing to say, but I was in tears too when I went for my first fitting and they told me how much was going to be required to get it to fit right… I was really scared they were going to wind up ruining the dress.  But the good news is, the dress has now been altered and it fits perfectly!  It looks like I hoped it would look, even though I had to wait until abot 6 weeks before my wedding to see what it would actually look like fitting properly.  And the corset back is so gorgeous compared to just a zipper.  So don’t worry… it can definitely all work out.

After picking and trying on my dress the attendant measured me and told me with my measurements they would have ordered 2 sizes up from the one I tried on and thought I fitted. corset backs make sizes almost irrelevant.

This being said I would be scared to pay so much money for something I wasnt sure fitted and looked good!

Definately go try it on. Good luck!!

@Katchin:  It didn’t fit in the hips as well as not fitting in the back.  The dress couldn’t sit low enough because it couldn’t quite be pulled down over my hips.  Since the corset doesn’t go all the way down that far, it wouldn’t help. I’m not completely sure what they did, but I believe they took some of the under layers of the skirt and cut the back of the skirt open and added in the extra panels.  When I heard that I was sure they were going to ruin it… but I honestly can’t tell.  Alterations people are wonderful!

Here’s the dress… Unfortunately I guess you can’t really see the skirt back because it was pinned here for bustling.  I don’t have another photo, I guess I should.

Im going through the same situation, my dress already has a corset back but I am still nervous about trying it on because I was between two sizes and the shop owner said because it was an inch difference I’d be fine with the corset back and shapewear with the smaller size. Well I switched jobs from  pretty active to a sit down desk job and have gained 9 lbs so now I am scared if I go try it on it wont fit! I love my dress so I am workin on losing what i have gained but I am still sad I have yet to run and try on my dress 🙁

@tiffytraxler88:  You still have six months to go… you can DEFINITELY lose that 9 pounds, so don’t worry if the dress doesn’t fit right now.  You can lose more than 9 pounds in a month.  I don’t see anything wrong with waiting a bit longer before you go try on the dress.  That’s what I’d probably want to do too.
