So after my tedious (yet successful) DIY STD’s (http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/ive-learned-im-more-of-a-biy-bride-than-a-diy-bride), I discovered that even though I love artsy-fartsy-crafty stuff, I was willing to BIY rather than DIY for convenience/time’s sake. I decided that everything else from that point on would be purchased–for my sanity’s (and my liver’s) sake.
There’s only one problem with that. I can’t find stuff to buy that I actually like. Then my brain starts going and going and….next thing you know, I’m elbow deep in another DIY project. This time: Thank You cards. (I know, I’ve got TONS of time before the wedding, but I’m in a super intense Nursing Program that won’t slow down to give me time for this kinda stuff as the wedding gets closer, so I’m taking advantage of my summer break to tackle as much wedding stuff as I can)
So, armed with a somewhat clear idea in my brain, I took a trip to my trusty scrapbook supply store with the intention of just finding some pretty cardstock, buying some ribbon and mounting squares and calling it a day. Then…I discovered……the embossing section. $150 later in stencils, heat guns, inks, brushes and daubers, and 4 days later of DIY…this is what I came up with:
Anyone else running into the same problem of just not finding things pre-made that “fit” you/your wedding/your personality? Did you end up just giving in to the DIY projects? Will this problem for me end with stationary…or is this going to become a pattern for the next 10 months? 🙂

it depends on what kind of bride you are. I was probably in between ( did a few things myself, found a few things premade that just worked best)
While you have the time, inspiration and energy I say go for it–your embossing project turned out great!

It doesn’t end.
For me, at least.
So far, I haven’t found pre-made-to-fit-my-taste of the following:
-Bridesmaid gifts (bracelets, necklaces and wraps)
-All other paper goods
And a million other things.
BEAUTIFUL cards by the way! That must have taken you forever!

i also have trouble finding things i like…but I also have trouble actually executing what i have in my head….i wish i could just pay someone to scan my brain and make what i’m envisioning.

That card is really pretty. Well done you. I’d say most of us would end up somewhere in the middle… I think I missed the crafting gene so I’ll be buying a lot of it!

lol, I am so sorry, I had to laugh.
We could be twins. Your card looks beautiful 🙂
I have a wedding site and I sell a lot of really nice stuff that I can get for wholesale, but most of it just isn’t me, so I find myself going to the store, just to look for a few inexpensive things and end up spending a ton. I have done and still am doing a bunch of DIY stuff. Luckily, I am almost at the end of the buying stuff to make the stuff stage and am just now making all the stuff.

Even after the wedding, it doesn’t end! I want to be a DISE (do it someone else) person, but it seems I prefer DIY. So now I have a huge craft box that I thought I could put away after the wedding, but seems to be getting even more use now 🙂

Lol! I am glad I am not alone! Thanks for the compliments–and yes, bunny, they took forever. Mainly because I kind of have the same problem that Ms. Meowerson has with execution. I left out the part where I had to go back to the store to buy “practice” cardstock because the instructions for the embossing paste said, “Apply paste with a metal palette knife as if icing a cake” OMG! I don’t ice cakes! Give me angles (preferably with degrees), give me something I can understand! lol. I learned that icing a cake does NOT mean swirly-wirly motions because that causes the paste to wedge itself between the stencil and the paper lol. (I guess it’s a good thing I don’t know how to ice a cake because that might turn into DIY too)
And Mrs. DG I suppose you’re right..when we remodeled our home, I ended up DIY draperies, bathroom mirrors, patio tables etc etc etc. I better go tell my FI to throw away my sewing machine before I decide to DIY linens, veil, napkins, etc!
Noritake: I am very impressed with your control because once I buy DIY stuff, I can’t help but immediately start doing it…and then obsessing about perfection until 3 am 🙂 when it’s done!

I had no intention of doing DIY stuff when we got engaged, then I found one thing, and then another, and now another. It seems most everything is DIY now. I just finished my Invites, working on favors now and I’ve got about 3 other decor DIY projects in line. We’ll see what else I add in the next month and a half lol.
So what I’m saying is, watch out lol

I’m doing all the stationary, guest books pages, having my brother build the cardbox (he’s the carpenter of the family, not me. seriously, he’s a carpenter), coaster, and a lot more. Even gonna attempt tackling the garters and headband ribbon! I’m also gonna be making drawstring bags for the dice for the kids’ favors…
Oh, and I’m making all the flowers since silver roses are impossible and black & purple is way too expensive.. black especially.
I’ll also be making the bouts (ok, they’re gonna be more like corsages that can be attached to any part of the body… figure the guys will have a ball with that, lol). (I’m hoping for a photo of the guys with a “where’s the bout?” caption… kinda like “where’s waldo?”)
Oh, and I’ve also designed the logo and all the artwork involved and I’m HOPING to get a quote on the custom designed 20-sided dice sometime soon!!!
I’m also a really crafty person who tries to do crafts A LOT. Michaels is paradise for me… and also somewhere I can shop with a limited budget, otherwise, the apartment would be stuffed with crafty stuff! LOL!

I am finding it a complete pain because I have a cherry blossom theme. Not Japanese Cherry Blossom either. What I do find is either Japanese cherry blossom or super bland cherry blossom. I want things in pinks that pop and dark luscious browns. I am finding it no where! So Im doing some creative research on other diy projects with more color and finding ways to incorperate my theme. Only problem now is that I have too many ideas! And being on a budget I cant do it all!
