*raises hand* I went with a cheap photographer and regret it... It could have been ok, but she does minimal post processing, and that's often where the photos start to become more than a photo. I probably could have done just as well, if not better, than her if I hadn't been the one in the wedding dress as well lol I mean, she wasn't horrible, and she was really great to work with, but most of the photos just didn't wow me.
I didn't go cheap just to go cheap, but for in this (only) example I can think of -- we drove in our cupcakes and made giant cupcakes with Wilton molds. I wish we'd just hired that out. It wasn't worth the stress and even our bakery cupcakes were kind of smushed from the drive. Now I look at "real" wedding cakes and love them. Luckily our photographer got a good angle on our giant cupcakes!
Wish I'd invested a little more in flowers (not florist... LOVED my florist)! Wish I'd asked her to do more lush flowers and paid a bit extra for more!
In the construction industry there is a often a rule that you don't hire the lowest bidder, you go with the second-lowest. This is because often the lowest bidder has made a mistake or forgotten to include something, and you will end up regretting it. So we tried to do this with our vendors and we were very pleased with all of them.
@snmcdowell~ Good point. I just got done helping my best friend pick a contractor for their house with that same rule.
I am actually probably going to go with the cheapest photographer on the list, which is not cheap at all, but that's just because I like her.
I went dirt cheap on a lot of things but I didn't regret it. I wish I'd made slightly fancier invitations, but honestly, they were fine just as is. It's just that now I see all these amazing DIY save the dates and adorable things. But I couldn't have made them all all by myself either!

I'm in the process of picking my vendors and I'm very causious about going with the cheapest person just because they're the cheapest. Of course, I want vendors that are great AND a good value. But, I think I'm more willing to go with an expensive vendor then regret it later.
Has anybody gone the cheap route, but then regretted it later?
