- Wedding: August 2014
My mom had a business meeting near where I live, so she came up a day early to spend some time with me. She has been dying to do the dress shopping thing with me ever since she discovered say yes to the dress. She was only here for Sunday, and the botique that we really want to go to is closed on Sundays, so we ended up at David’s Bridal. I managed to get through 9 dresses in an hour and a half, which from what I hear is pretty good. My goal was to try a bunch of different styles to figure out what works for my body. I’m having an outdoor wedding in Wisconsin in August, so lightweight and garden friendly were things I was looking for.
I’ve got a long torso and a large bust, it turns out that dropped waist and mermaidy things make me look like I have midget legs. *sigh* I really liked this dress in pictures, but on me it’s ‘meh’.
This one was pretty, but didn’t really give me any shape. the details also stopped 3/4 down my bust which is something that drives me nuts in clothing, nothing ever fits in the chest.
This one was the first one that really gave me any kind of shape. It wasn’t bad, but I would have liked it better if it had 2 straps instead of 1
This one was my mom’s favorite. She said it gave me a really nice hourglass figure. Personally I feel that halters are a bad idea when you’re both broad-shouldered and busty. I felt like my boobs were huge and far to large a focal point in this dress. I showed my Fiance this pic and his first reaction was ‘nuh uh’.
After the halter-top i really liked how this one minimized my chest, I also liked the sash and the overall shape. Unfortunately charmuse is not the most humid hot weather friendly fabric.
I’m not very big on tulle or poof, but I tried this one on for funsies. I actually liked it a good bit more than I thought I would. It felt very bridal. I think the reason I liked it so much was it was the first time the consultant had brought me an ivory dress with the kind of lace I had been asking for. I actually got stuck in this one for awhile because the consultant disapeared and we were out of dresses. I tried sitting down in it and the boning buckled. I’m not sure if that was due to it being too large, or poor construction, but I thought I’d mention it in case anyone else is considering this dress.
The last dress was my favorite. When my consultant finally reappeared we asked her if she had the dress, it turned out that they only had it in size 4 (I’m a street 12). My mom asked if we could see the dress anyway, and the consultant brought it out for us. We attemped to try it on (sort of) to get an idea of what it would look like.
Here’s the front on my mom who’s a lot smaller on top than I am
This last one could be my dress, it has everything I’m looking for: ivory, lightweight, flowy, lace, sweep train, simple and it’s a V-neck which I totally rock as a busty lady. It’s perfect for my venue which is a park on the Milwaukee river. I’m definitely going to see if they can get it closer to my size for me to try on again.
