So I’ve been compiling this list of rings I like for a few days, and was planning to share at least some of it tonight or tomorrow. I decided that before I did that I wanted to visit a brick & mortar store and confirm that the sizes and shapes I like in pictures actually look right on my hand.
I found that what I thought I like is pretty drastically differnet from what I liked in the store.
Now granted, this was a really small local place and didn’t have tons of selection. I tried on maybe 15 rings. (I was super nervous to go to the store but the guy there was extemely nice!) I got to see a few sapphires, which is the stone I’ve been set on lately. I really didn’t like them that much. The dark ones I loved online I didn’t like at all in person, especially next to diamond accents that were so much sparklier. The lighter ones were better, but still not that exciting than me. I liked the aquamarine, blue topaz, blue zircon, and (a gorgeous) blue-green diamond a lot more because they’re lighter colored.
But girls, I think I like diamonds. Like a lot. I was really set against having one, but they’re sooo pretty! I wouldn’t really say I fell in love one, but I liked the Artcarved Hayley ring quite a bit. And the blue diamond!
That said, I’m still not buying a diamond (or suggesting my Fiance buy me one, rather) because the other thing I discovered is I like pretty sizable stones (1.5ct+ for round) This has got me back on moissanite, which is more than I think should be spent on my ring 🙁 But I really want that type of fire!
Now I feel like I need to throw out my whole list and start over. I’m glad I discovered all this before Fiance bought a ring at least. But this has left me very confused! How do I deal with this indecision?

I had a similar experience. I thought I liked more ornate jewelry OR a simple solitaire and it turned out when I tried them on I liked somewhere in between. Trying on rings is essential!
Good luck finding the perfect ring! 🙂

How exciting! I know it can be overwhelming, but it’s good you are doing this. I went online and didn’t try on and now I wish I had tried on in person. Anyway, continue your quest, and whichever styles keep resurfacing and making you happy repeatedly are probably the direction to go in. Good luck!! 🙂

Haha, I thought hated halos and bezel settings. I ended up choosing a bezel-set halo! It just shows that you can’t tell until you see them in person/try them on. I also found that diamonds/moissanite (I got to see both in person, choose moissanite for price/practicality) are MUCH sparkilier in person than they seem online. I was overwhelmed.

Eeep, this is definitely why I need to go out and actually look at rings. I keep getting myself all confused about what I want and what I like looking online. Does anyone know of anywhere that sells Moissy in DC so I can take a look at it? Hmmm….

@google: Go to this site…http://www.charlesandcolvard.com/retail_locator/
It shows all of the Charles and Colvard dealers (good quality moissanite). To be honest, however, our jewelers (Solomon Bros., Atlanta!) aren’t on the list, but they got C&C moissy in for us to see in 2 days. They showed it to us compared to an “H” colored diamond of the same size they had in stock. Also, their price was significantly better than unenhanced moissy on MoissaniteCo and other online dealers. Check it out! Don’t settle for JC Penney versions!
