Lovely!! We're thinking about Belize for our honeymoon! Are you concerned at all about hurricanes (we're a week after you!)? I've heard Costa Rica is AMAZING. I've always wanted to do a tree top canopy tour/zip line type thing in the rainforest!
@Bakerella - my parents have been to Belize many times and LOVE it there. We're staying on the pacific side of Costa Rica. I think we'll be ok for hurricanes, but it's rainy season so we might get poured on. Look into Amburgey quay in Belize. :)
Ooh I just looked at the website for your hotel, it looks beautiful!!! I love the thatched huts. I'm a sucker for that stuff ;) We're looking at the Royal Belize. I might book tomorrow........................... I don't know why I'm so nervous to book it!
It was definitely my fiance who was nervous to book. I'm so excited, I wish I could go tomorrow! :) The Royal Belize looks spectacular!
It looks pretty fantastic and we'll have the island to ourselves :) I'm nervous to book because of the time of year. We're not covered by the travel agent's insurance for some reason. I talked to a girl I found on WB who lives in Belize and said we'll be fine. The guy at the Royal Belize said they've only evacuated for a hurricane once in 18 years or something like that, and that when it rains it down pours for like 2 hours and then stops and is clear beautiful skies and it's actually pretty spectacular. Although of course that's what he would say.... ;)
I'm also trying to convince FI to let me extend our layover in Miami to a few days so we can drive up to Orlando and go to the new Harry Potter theme park at Universal Studios. He's not biting yet.
How long is it taking you to get to Costa Rica from Van?
Oh, I so want to do the Harry Potter theme park! We connect in Houston, so no go!!
It's about 9 hours of total in flight time, but about 13 hours of total travel time. It's going to be a long day.
With the rain thing, we were pretty much told the same thing. The rain comes at night for a few hours. My fingers are crossed, but I doubt a little rain is going to damper my honeymoon excitement. I do live in Vancouver after all! :)
Alright toothfairyb, we're in this together then! Honestly, I think there are worse things that could happen on your honeymoon than being rained in with the new hubs in a beautiful room ;) I think we're looking at about the same amount of travel from here to Belize. Toronto to Miami to Belize City. Then we take a half hour commuter flight (could drive but the idea terrifies me plus I get car sick), then a boat ride over to the island. I think we'll sleep the first two days to recover!
Ya, we've got a 50 minute domestic flight too. It was that or a 4 hour drive on dirt roads in a bus. The mini plane scares me, but not as much as the dirt roads in a bus!!
Our honeymoons sound quite similar! I'm so excited for us! :)
Too funny! I think we're doing 10 nights as well! We'll have to compare after! I agree about the dirt roads on a bus thing. We could have taken a private helicopter but it was like $2000 or something ridiculous like that. Cool but not worth the money to me! I'm going to try to book the majority of our flights via Airmiles. I should start calling about that tomorrow...
How do you think I should convince FI about Harry Potter/Disney? His response was "Can't we go another time?!". He's no fun :(
Oh man! My fiance would never go - but if yours says another time...take him up on that! ;) I love Harry Potter so much. I would love to go! Try to convince him that it will be nice to have a break from all of the flying to go hang out with Ron, Hermione and Harry! :)
Idea: Let's you and me meet up and do Harry Potter land and send the hubbies the rest of the way home by themselves, LOL! Could you imagine?!

We booked our honeymoon in Costa Rica today! We're off for 10 nights in Tamarindo staying at the Barcelo Langosta Beach hotel!
I am SO excited! Anyone have any must do things while we're there? I'm thinking about doing the zip line thing. :)
