My hunch was right– we got engaged on our epic cross-country motorcycle trip!
The trip itself was insane. We were riding 10+ hours a day, and it left me sleep-deprived, sunbaked, and sore. After what felt like a million roadside screaming matches, the last thing I was expecting was a proposal.
We got rained out one evening driving through British Columbia on our way back home, so we stopped at the first hotel we came across in a little mountain town. We ended up getting there just in time to actually catch a sit-down dinner and glass of wine in a real restaurant, the first time since we left.
Mr. Moose apparently had plans to propose in Jasper, thinking we could climb up a trail to a scenic location where he’d pop the question, but in his words, “I thought after all this, you’d probably complain about me making you climb a mountain and ruin it.” 😛
So, he asked while we were sitting in the hotel lounge, dry and comfy, enjoying a meal together. It was very simple with little fanfare, and totally us. He didn’t end up getting to buy a ring before the trip so he presented me with a few stand-in options, so my ring is a $30 sterling silver with a green amber stone– it’s confusing the heck out of people who immediately look to my left hand, and it’s really entertaining me. We’re going to pick out the ‘real’ ring soon.
Now the planning begins! I’m a little nervous as our tastes seem to be running in entirely opposite directions, but I’m hoping we get through it with as much harmony as possible. I’m so excited to spend the rest of my life with Mr. Moose!
