I’ve been a long-time viewer of this site, but today I get to officially sign up share my own good news: He proposed!!
Every day after work, I go running (usually between 2.5 and 4 miles) then my boyfriend and I go on a mile-long walk with our dog (http://www.facebook.com/DinTheDog) around beautiful Italian Lake in Harrisburg. On Thursday, September 4, our walk forever changed my life.
Although I was completely clueless about his intent to propose, I decided on this particular day of all days, that I was going to throw in a load of laundry before we left and that my running shorts absolutely needed to be included in that wash cycle. So, I changed into a dress before we departed, an unprecedented turn of events. We carried on as usual, talking about TV or the weather or our respective challenges at work. As we neared the lake, Jarod suggested we take the long way around. Unbeknownst to me, he was trying to get up the courage to pop the question.
Halfway around the lake, by the gorgeous center bridge, Jarod stopped me and took my hands in his. He started by telling me the story of how he introduced me to his friends 780 days ago without asking my permission at The Legend of Zelda symphony in Philadelphia, PA. As soon as I realized where it was going my eyes welled and I tossed the water bottle I was holding into the grass beside the lake. He told me he wanted to spend the rest of my life with me, then got down on one knee and pulled out a Zelda treasure chest and asked me to be his wife. When he opened it, inside was the most beautiful ring I’ve ever seen in my life.
Since then I’ve had time to digest every single detail about the ring and proposal. The ring is a Tacori 2620 with a 1.5+ carat round brilliant center stone. I think the ring size might be a 5? It’s a little snug on my finger, but I’d prefer it that way. It’s set in platinum in Tacori’s signature “bloom” – kind of like a halo, but not quite as pronounced. I know the diamond is GIA certified, but I don’t recall the exact specs. If anyone is interested I can go back and ask again. I can’t take my eyes off it!!
He had the box specially ordered from Nintendo. It makes the Zelda treasure chest noise when it is opened. (Are you seeing a theme here?) Jarod and the Mountz jeweler took time to remake the box into a ring box. What a thoughtful touch, considering we’re both very into video games.
Anyway, thank you for letting me share the good news! I’m so excited to finally be a part of this community and to plan our ceremony! I’m sure I’ll be asking for plenty of tips in the coming months.
After the proposal: We stopped a man walking a dog to take a photo and capture the moment. Staged proposal pictures may follow this week. We’re not sure. Advice? He would have had the photographer there the day of, but since I usually walk in my running clothes – most often spandex shorts and a tank top – he decided against it. A good call, I think.
A photograph of Italian Lake in Harrisburg. He proposed to the left of the bridge.
My beautiful Tacori engagement ring. I can’t believe how lovely it is. I’m in awe. I also can’t believe I had my fingernails painted! It’s not the color I would have selected, but it’s better than nude! I went out over the weekend and had my nails done, so I feel better showing it off now.
