Haha, I didn't realize this didn't post correctly until just now. Sorry!

It's so awesome being in the 250's! When we first got engaged, my countdown was 444. In 50 days, we'll be in the 100's!! So excited :) It feels like just yesterday I was celebrating being in the 300's. I hope these next 8 months go by just as quickly!

Yea, it's crazy how quick it's going, especially since we're overhauling some of our planning right now. I just wasn't happy with our menu choices and couldn't pick a cake for the life of me!

Oh lord have mercy I'm SO excited!!!! I feel like things are slow for us because what's that? Oh yeah. Still no ring. Grrrrr HA! We find out today if he got the job so keep your fingers crossed because that means I get a ring!!!!!! :D On a planning note, we are booking our caterer next week so that's pretty much the last "big" thing off the list. Now it's time for the billions of little things....

I can't believe how quickly this time is going by!!!!!

@toffee- I STILL have no idea what kind of cake I want. I guess I need to get on that lol.

@KansasPrincess- I know it's frustrating, but you're just as much engaged without the ring and we enjoy planning with you! Fingers are crossed for you. I know the feeling though, my FI just landed an awesome job that we could not be more excited about! I've already got my engagement ring, but yay for a nicer wedding band than I had originally expected! :)

    What's everyone's May to-do list?

@nurselindsey I love all the fondant cake pictures, but my FI hates fondant and I've never found another person's fondant to be enjoyable (weird, I know, but they all taste different than mine and I don't like it). So, buttercream is our only choice, but now I'm not even sure I want a cake...maybe cupcakes...or pie...or who knows what! Also, congrats to your FI for getting a great job. I actually just got a possible job offer yesterday out of the blue for a place I didn't think I could get a job at. Hopefully I'll know by the end of the week.

[Edit] I posted my To Do list in a different topic on the boards, but mostly I'm hoping to get the dessert and menu figured out, renew my passport (NWR), make a mock-up bouquet, book our photographer, price out our (new) menu and work on my origami cranes. Oh and work on our invitations. I've already got them written up, so now I just need our GM to design the border and a bow to put on it and then I can hopefully get the materials ordered and printed up and ready to send out.

@Toffee-Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the way fondant tastes either. I'm pretty sure I'll go with a buttercream frosting. I think cupcakes would be great for you also! & Thank you :) We're both excited. It's going to help us out so much financially. Congrats to you on your job offer! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you also. Keep us updated!

I don't know what I'm going to do in May. I've got just everything booked (caterer, venues, photographer, videographer, dj, etc) I've got my dress (my 2nd dress actually haha) and my BM's have chosen their dress and are all measured. Now all I have is little stuff. I think I'll start figuring out what kind of invitations I want and choose our cakes. It feels great checking so many things off my list!

Super excited!  In 2 weeks there will only be 8 months to go.  I can't believe how quickly it's going by already I can't even imagine how fast it is going to go by the last few months.  FI cousin is doing our STDs and started working on those for us!  One more thing to cross off the list!

@nurselindsey: Thanks for the encouragement, no news today unfortunately but I'm hoping for the news tomorrow! And I know what you mean, I feel engaged but people look at me like I'm a psycho and I don't want to have to lie and say my ring is getting sized...ugh. Oh well! And congrats on your FI's new job, that's soooo exciting!!!

We have our invites designed and I'm going to order paper in May, hopefully have them done by June. I'm going to just print them and put them together a few at a time to save my sanity ;) Waiting for the ring for e-pictures which means waiting on STD's but we'll see! So I think mainly it's the little things for me too. I need to print off a checklist and see what I have left...although the week before finals? The sight of that list might give me a heart attack, ha! :)

@rachealrobin - Sounds like May is going to be a busy month for you!

@saeliz - Yay for crossing things off your list! You'll have to show off your STD's when you're done with them :) (Haha, that sentence sounds weird to say)

@Kansas - I'm sure no one thinks you're psycho! Who says you have to have a ring to be engaged anyways? Sure it's nice, but it's not a pre-requisite! & Thank you!

I feel behind compared to all of you, I haven't even thought about my invites yet. Yikes! I need to get a move on.

@nurselindsey -- you have plenty of time to think about save-the-dates. my mom is graphic designer, so she's designing all of our paper goods, but we haven't done much with them either. i don't anticipate sending them out til mid-July.

we have most our our big things taken care of (venue, photographer, dress, BM dresses, DJ...). we're going home next weekend to do our cake tasting before FH deploys for 6 months (wahhhh!) and picking up our wedding rings! it is going to be SO hard not to wear my new bling while he's gone ... maybe just around the house? :)

i'm just starting to think about floral arrangements, and we need to hire musicians for the ceremony & cocktail hour. AND MY DRESS GETS IN IN JULY! WOOOOO!

it's starting to finally feel closer & more real, my January-bees!

:)) We're getting closer:)  I think I'll be changing  my date to January 8th, 2011.  Since both our parents think no one will show up after the new years.

I got engaged almost a month ago (it'll be a month tomorrow).  So far I have the dress (I love love love my dress), and tomorrow I am meeting with my best friends and will ask both to be my MOH.

I don't have the shoes or the veil yet, though I am looking for them.  In May we'll select a venue, a photographer, the cake, the decoration, flowers, and music and pretty much everything else.  We're having a destination wedding, so we are going there in May to settle the details.

In June we'll buy the tuxedo and select our invitations and STDs.

Thank you all so much for all the support :)

@hsearle: I really "lol"ed at thinking about you wearing the band around the house. I totally would! :) If he's not there to complain, why not?! ;) You're just letting your fingers get used to the company, haha! Also feel free to vent if you're lonely while your FI is gone!

@nurselindsey: Yeah, I feel that way too but for some reason people just don't take me seriously. Oh well...I'm hoping it'll be coming soon. We were supposed to find out about his job yesterday but the lady never called back...maybe today :/

Do any of you have any good suggestions for a good check-list that has pretty specific details?

@KansasPrincess11 -- i agree, i see no harm! while the cat is away, the mice shall ... sneak around the apartment wearing their wedding ring? :D and you will most definitely be hearing from me while he's gone. i can picture it now ... wasting hours on weddingbee in my jam-jams, bowl of popcorn in front of me and all over my shirt, watching romantic comedies and blubbering like a fool.

oh! and as for a checklist, i'd be happy to email you the checklist my wedding planner put together for us. i can just make it generic and take out our information. it's an an excel format. message me with your addy!

@KansasPrincess11 Don't worry, I'm used to doing that anymore. If it helps, I try to write a list at least once a week of what I want to get done by the next week. My FI and I have a weekly meeting where we talk wedding so that he knows what we're actually spending money on and why it's worth it.

@hsearle Yay! Date twins! What time of day are you having yours?

Is anyone worried about snow? I have a crazy fear that nobody will come because they'll get stuck in a blizzard or something on the way up, because nature has to make up for having a mild winter last year.

@toffee - I'm not too worried about it since I live in Alabama. But at the same time, when you live down south and rarely ever get snow, people have a tendency to freak out and be all "Oh my gosh, it's gonna snow, let's stock up on supplies and not leave the house!" So, I'm afraid that will happen, but hoping it doesn't, lol! We actually got a decent bit of snow this past winter, but it wasn't too bad, the roads weren't too bad, so people could still drive in it.

@hsearle: I did! Thank you SO much! I'm also passing it along to a friend who is engaged! :D There are a lot of things that don't apply to me so I'm just switching them out for random things I think of ;)

@Toffee: My answer when he asks "why?" is: "Because we'll have the prettiest wedding!" and he laughs and writes the check...Ahhh gotta love it. He just doesn't get the details though. He thought the dress, locations and food was all we would have to do! Um, not so much honey ;)

As for the snow I'm praying for the perfect balance, snow enough for beautiful pictures but not so much that nobody can make it! It's very hit or miss here in Kansas, we'll either have the most beautiful snow or it'll be 45 degrees and sunny with all the ugly dead trees without pretty snow on them. I have a feeling that since I picked the one time of year that I WANT precipitation that I won't get it. If I had planned a spring wedding it would be perfect ;)

@toffee - our ceremony is at 430pm. we are having a candlelight ceremony (since it will be almost dusk!) with reception immediately to follow.

@kansasprincess11 - haha, i figured! there are things that don't apply to me either, but dang, that list is *thorough*! makes planning a little easier knowing you get fuullll satisfaction of checking boxes off as you complete items on the list!

@hsearle I'd like a copy too. Can't have too many lists. I think we're having ours at 1:30 or so with the reception immediately following. We wanted it early enough in the day that people would be ok to drive home that night and not slide off the road.

@KansasPrincess11 I know what you mean about the snow. This year it didn't hardly snow at all, so I'm hoping for like 3-6" on the grass so that it's completely covered and I won't get muddy or gross taking pictures.

Hello again ladies!! My how much I've missed since I was gone this weekend! I was out of state to see my FI graduate!!!! YAY! Now we really can get married!!!!!

    1) I am THRILLED to be in the 240s as of today!! YAY 249!!! Its coming so soon!! (Well, at least it seems soon b/c we started with 15 months now we have about 8!! I realize that many people are only engaged for 8. HA!)

    2) I have all the big stuff done. Venue/caterer, florist, ceremony site, photographer, DJ, officiant (my dad), and DOC all booked. BM dresses mostly picked (waiting on 1 girl). On to the smaller stuff! I have the invitations 1/2 done, working on my DIY centerpieces some more, and registering/looking for furniture for our house! YAY! I love finishing stuff!

    3) As for snow... I live in Chicago so I expect there to be snow, NAY.... I DEMAND there to be snow! I want it for the pictures. The like I keep saying is "Snow, yes. Blizzard, no!" I can just imagine the trees flocked in snow. *Sigh* I hope there is snow!

@hsearle - Pick me! Pick me!! I want the list too! I'll send you a message with my email! Thanks!

@toffee -- yes, i know what you mean! i'm hoping for *enough* snow, but not a huge blizzard! we have about 50% of our guests flying in from out of town, so i'm praying the weather is wintery, but not terrifying. we decided on an evening wedding because 1) it seemed super romantic, but 2) our church is 2.5 blocks from our reception venue, so it will be a quick hop from the ceremony to the party! we're also arranging transportation for our out-of-towners so they won't have to worry about driving. the hotels are pretty close, so i think we'll be ok

also, send me your email addy and i'll shoot you over a copy of the check-list!

@nurselindsay -- private message me with your email addresses and i'll email you a copy, too!

on a side note, FI & i are taking our engagement photos this weekend, too! hope the weather holds! now, what to wear ...

@hsearle We were hoping (more like I was hoping) to get some pictures taken yesterday or Sunday, but the weather got all icky, so we couldn't do it. We're now hoping to be able to do it this weekend instead. I had planned on having a later ceremony/reception, but we've since decided on not serving a full dinner and instead serving a contemporary meal instead, so we wanted it earlier so that guests didn't expect a full meal. And that way it will still be light enough to take pictures outside in the snow after the ceremony.

@hsearle I definitely will share and I'm looking forward to seeing your pictures! We still have to look for wedding rings, the FI has narrowed down on his, but I haven't looked hardly at all. I'm thinking about baking up some different cupcakes to decide what flavors/combinations we want. I'm definitely going to be doing some chocolate cupcakes with tangerine frosting or possibly chocolate cupcake with tangerine frosting as filling and german chocolate cake as the frosting on top. I made a cake this week in the second combo and it was seriously amazing.
