Hi Bees! I want to share some exciting news, but don’t want all my friends and family to know yet (I don’t think I can deal with the questions)! FI came home the other night and said that him and his Dad went to the bank to talk about getting pre-approved for a mortgage! My Mom has a good friend who is a real estate agent and I asked him if I should get a hold of her, and he said yes and gave me the go ahead to start looking!!
Since we’ve never done this before, I’m not sure how fast or slow the whole process will go, but we are still lucky as far as the market goes here. We are looking to get a 3 bed/2 bath home, and should be able to find one for 250,000-300,000. My Mom said that 5 or 6 years ago you could find a house in our area under 300,000 period.
It’s a little ironic that we will be saving up for a couple of years for the wedding, but then decide to buy a house, but to be completely honest I would rather own a home and have a much simpler wedding! Thanks for letting me share, We’re just so pumped and can’t wait to start looking!!

Congrats! It’s such an exciting time. Although it can be frustrating, so be patient but persistent! It pays off in the end!

Awesome news! You’ll enjoy this time looking, but it will be stressful. Just remember not to budge on your requirements (both price and everything else) and try to be patient. I’m sure the right house will come at the right time. (And right price!!) Have fun looking and good luck!

Thank You! Looks like I’ll need to make a list of our must haves. FI will only care about the price and if it has a woodstove (he thinks it makes the house feel more home-y…he’s too cute about that!).

That’s awesome!! I am in the same boat. We just got our offer accepted on a new 2005 home, 3 bed-2 bath for 140,000. We are sooo stoked! Luckily we live in a rural area so housing prices are fabulous. I am a mortgage loan processor, so my boss is doing our loan for us and getting us a great deal on closing costs and stuff. Good luck to you in your housing hunt!! It’s great fun although be prepared to be patient, it can be a very long process!!

Congrats! We just bought in the summer and although it was SOO stressful going through the process, it is awesome being a homeowner!!
The timing really depends on the situation. We started looking in February and had an offer accepted in March and closed 2 months later. But I have friends who did short slaes and it tooks 6 months-a year.
Enjoy! And just remember to take into consideration all those extra costs that add up-home inspection, closing costs, etc.
