I was wondering if any of you married bees could help me out. I talked to the registry department at Bed Bath and Beyond and they said I could return any item for cash that was on my registry. Any bees out there actually able to do that? I am worried they will try to give us store credit instead of cash. Thanks in advance!

They gave us the option of cash or store credit. We wanted credit though- we ended up with a gift card worth over 800 by the time the completion event came about which was awesome for us.

When we returned gifts we were told they haven’t done the cash option in years. Even so, we were really happy with them. Just a few weeks ago we had the coffee maker from our registry break and the store allowed us to exchange it for a new one, no questions asked. I was super surprised since we got married a year and a half ago!

I registered at Bed Bath and Beyond and Crate and Barrel. We ended up choosing a lot more from BBB because it was cheaper and we thought easier for the guests….. I was wrong. We have received maybe 30 items from crate and barrel (coming from all over the us) and none from BBB.
So I dont know if people didnt want to go there or what.
They didnt mention the cash thing though. I would love to see what others bees say about it.

I literally returned an item for cash yesterday, though I was prepared with a gift receipt.
We were very happy with our bed bath & beyond registry. Easy to modify online, very smooth return/exchange policy(at least for us) and now that our wedding passed, they sent us an invite to come take 20% off our entire purchase as incentive to come in and buy additional items off our registry.

I was happy with our registry. Our returns went onto gift cards, though I didn’t ask about the cash option.

Thanks for all who replied. I had heard good things about Bed Bath and Beyond but my Fiance has been worried they wouldn’t give us cash back so I wanted to double check!

We were very happy registering with them. We did return items for cash with no problems. Also, the completion event was amazing!! We got 20% off of anything in the store…it didn’t even have to be items from our registry. We picked up a lot of great deals.

We already finished off our registry by purchasing items ourselves (after the wedding) but we forgot to check them off our registry and people have now bought us duplicates! oops. Guess the duplicates are oging back again.
Anyways, BBB does give cash back, although I would have been happy with a store credit.

@Running Elley What is the completion event? I was a bit ticked off that my completion bonus was only 10% off everything… Macys gave me 20% off and I got an additional 5% back on whatever anyone bought me.

They offered us cash back- but we took the store credit instead because we knew if we had the cash we would spend it on something dumb like food and we wouldn’t have anything to show for it.

btw just thinking about this- the only bad thing about BBB registry is I don’t know who bought the gifts! On Macy’s there’s a “gift card manager” with their names and addresses. I see that many BBB gifts were purchased and never given to us so idk if it was lost in shipping or the gift giver was forgetful!?

@PinkMagnolia:The registry department at the store called us and told us about it. There was a Sunday that was a big event where they invited all of the couples with registries from the past year I think to come out to the store and you checked in, they gave you a copy of your registry and you shopped! We were really surprised because we thought that we could only buy things off of the registry for the 20% discount but it was anything in the store. I think the event was in September? And I’m pretty sure that the extra discount was only for the event.

We are registered at Crate and Barrel and BB&B. So far people seem to be buying more things from BB&B. I haven’t heard anything about the cash policy, but I’m planning on just exchanging any returns I might need to do for other items.
One issue I’ve noticed with BB&B is that there have been multiple purchases for items that have already be fulfilled (I’m getting triple the amount of towels I registered for and two aprons).
I don’t know if all places allow people to buy duplicates of fulfilled items, but I’m surprised that whoever bought these extra items (my shower is this weekend so I don’t know who it was) was allowed to do so. I don’t really need two identical aprons, and it’s going to suck having to open duplicates at my shower and act grateful and surprised.

I just confirmed that in NYC you can indeed get cash back for returns if they can verify that these items were bought from your registry.
Part of me wants the credit so I can get some larger things that no one has bought, but Fiance will want the cash as two weeks out we really need it.
I must point out though that only some stores do this- in Milwaukee when I returned some things after my shower- I was given store credit.
