Were your engagement photos flattering?

@FutureMrsT1221:  You can do a lot in 7 days as far as water weight! That is usually what makes us women look bloated anyway. I would do low carb, tons of water, and eat A LOT of asparagus. Cut the water back a a couple days before the shoot. Wear spanks, and use contouring makeup on your face, neck, and collarbone. Google how to look thinner in photos, there’s lots of little tricks. I would also tell your photographer that you’re feeling self conscious about it, they can be aware of flattering poses.

@FutureMrsT1221:  I think that a good photographer will know exactly what angles and poses will flatter you most.  I haven’t had my engagement photos yet (despite being engaged since March 10 lol) but I just see them as practice wedding photos and a chance to feel comfortable in front of the camera and with your photographer before the big day.  Also the right outfit can make all the difference in making you look bigger or smaller.  Do you konw what you’re going to wear yet?

I was very pleasantly surprised with how our engagement photos turned out.  Like other PPs said, a good photographer will be able to capture your best angles.

@FutureMrsT1221: I was thrilled with how our engagement pictures came out. I think an experienced photographer is good at posing you in such a way that your best angle is captured. It really eased my mind for the wedding as there weren’t any pictures that made me say “I’m a whale!”

@FutureMrsT1221:  Tips from a photographer:

Stretch out your neck and jut forward a little – think like a peacock. It will feel weird but it will help remove double chin, but only really necessary when you are sitting down I find, otherwise just elongate your neck.

Sit up straight, shoulders back, suck in a bit.

Never put hands on anyones stomache, it exaggerates the slight bulge.

If hands are in pockets, guys, keep thumb out, girls only put thumb in. Otherwise it looks like you have a bulge in your pants!

Photographer shouldn’t be shooting from below you.

That’s all I can think of off the top of my head!

Funny story — I actually emailed my photographer (who was a friend from college, so not quite as inappropriate) two days before the shoot and said I felt fat and hated the way I looked in everything and was poor and couldn’t go buy anything new and I wanted to cancel the shoot.

He basically told me to chill the F out, have a glass of wine, and let him to do the rest.

In the end, I did go shopping and found two things I liked (poor or not, new clothes were a must) and ended up LOVING my photos — with two exceptions.  The popular “lift your lady up” pose which both felt and looked awkward and then one of us sitting from behind in which there is backfat going.  I’m only about 20lbs overweight but I’m so short that it makes me feel a lot heavier.

Make sure you find things you feel good in and let your photographer work his or her magic.  You may not love every single image but you will have plenty that you do love!

Can’t wait to see them!

Dark colors are always slimming and you’re choices look great.  Don’t worry, you’ll look beautiful. As a PP said, you might not love them all – but you’ll love a few, like a bunch and capture some great memories to be treasured forever.
