Hi bees! DH and I are planning a cruise for our wedding anniversary and are torn between these two cruises. DH has been to Norway but when he was 13 – so he doesn’t remember much (but said it was one of his favorite cruises). I have been to all the Italy stops and loved them in college but have never been to France/Spain. Please help us decide!! Thanks!
Norway Cruise (8 Nights) – Southampton, England / Skjolden, Norway / Flam, Norway / Olden, Norway / Alesund, Norway / Stavanger, Norway
Western Mediterranean Cruise (7 Nights) – Barcelona, Spain / Provence (Marseilles), France / Villefranche (Nice), France / La Spezia (Florence/Pisa), Italy / Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy / Naples (Capri), Italy
PS – We are going in May 2014…so the weather will be a little cooler (average high is 61-69 degrees depending on where we go). Thanks for your help!

I see where deciding is tough… I know I’d certainly LOVE to do them both too.
If I had to choose tho just based on the Itinerary… I’d pick the Mediterranean one because I hear that the English Channel and North Sea can be rough… (very rough at times)… and as I am a “smooth sailing” kind of cruiser that would be a very important consideration for me.
The Mediterranean Cruise goes out of Barcelona, which I hear is nice… and so you get to avoid the English Channel on that one.
Great ports of call… we are looking at a similar Itinerary for our 2014 Cruise as well.
Hope this helps,
PS… Which cruise line ?

@This Time Round: Thank you so much for your suggestions!! We are going with Royal Caribbean and trying to go on one of the “Freedom Class” ships.

TO @bride5512: sounds nice. Royal Caribbean has a good reputation… we cruise on their sister line… Celebrity.
If you haven’t already, be sure and check out Cruise Critic and the Board for Royal Caribbean, you can chat there with other cruisers (ask them what they’d choose for example)… also it is a good place to find out about upcoming deals etc. As well as a fabulous spot to learn about the various Intineraries, Ships and even Cabins
I won’t book my own cruises without checking in on CC… have been able to hear about some great deals… as well as book some INCREDIBLE Cabins (not all cabins are created equally for the same money !!)
Hope this helps,

I’d do Norway. DH and I really want to do a Scandinavian cruise!
Plus, with the Western Mediterranean cruise, I’d want way more than a partial day port-of-call to experience those cities. You really can’t fully enjoy them in half a day, IMO.

TO @Mrs.KMM: I agree on the overnight (2 Day Stay) comment…
So you’ll be happy to know that Celebrity (and I think Royal Caribbean as well) is doing some cruises now that does overnights in some Ports of Call in Europe.
Worth a look if you are a cruiser.
Hope this helps,
Mr TTR and I haven’t got months for Europe once we retire… but we do have a nice block of time… (about 6 weeks) so we are thinking that we’ll spend some of it on a cruise, visiting places like the Greek Islands & Turkey, that we wouldn’t otherwise see on a road-trip. The road-trip / train portion we can concentrate on the UK and some of the more popular destinations like The Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Northern Italy.
Doing the cruise therefore on the Med, will give us the best of both worlds.

I have been on that Western Med. cruise 2 times before and loved it each time! Also, since the weather will be cooler you will really get to enjoy Spain / Italy. I thought Norway was too cold even during June / July, so not sure if it would be warm enough for my taste in May.
