I know Maui is a popular honeymoon spot so I’m hoping a few of you have some insight on the Westin or Sheraton resort (or both!) in Maui. FI and I are debating between the 2…we’re using points for some free nights so definitely want to stay at a Starwood Resort but can’t seem to decide between the two. We typically opt for Westin’s but heard this location can be very cramped & family oriented. I’ve read good/bad things about both but looking to hear your pros/cons!
Thanks for your help bees!

@Fusco737: Hi, Just as a tip (I know you want to use your points) but we booked the four seasons maui for the same price as some of the cheaper resorts with ALOT more perks. If you look up Four Seasons preferred partners they should be able to help you and maybe it might be worth pricing too! 🙂

We loved the Westin! We spent most of our time at the adults only pool (no kids allowed, plus bar and hot tub!), and didn’t find the presence of kids/families around the resort to be a problem. There are four pools and a couple very good restaurants, plus the Westin lobby is very welcoming and serene for hanging out with a drink. It’s a very large resort so it never felt crowded, and we had no trouble finding chaise lounges at the pool every day.
We went to the Sheraton to play tennis a couple times since the hotels have reciprocal privileges. The Sheraton is also nice, but it has more garden/grassy grounds and fewer pool options, and we didn’t find the lobby or other common areas as welcoming.
Aloha and enjoy your honeymoon!

You really can’t go wrong with either. They are both gorgeous and are right next to one anothe (with Ka’anapali Beach Hotel in between), so they share the same AMAZING beach.
We stayed at the Sheraton and absolutely fell in love with it. I’d stay there again in a heartbeat. Although the hotels are comparable in terms of amenities, we got a much better room for our money at the Sheraton. We got an ocean view there and could have only afforded a garden view at the Westin.
Whichever you choose, have an amazing honeymoon! I still daydream about our Maui honeymoon, and it’s been almost two years!

I stayed at the Sheraton and thought it was great. I can’t compare it to the Westin because I’ve never stayed there. The only thing about the Sheraton was the grounds were quite large, so it was kind of a long way from say the pool to your room, and the dining options on site were fairly expensive, and nothing to write home about. But if you’re planning to explore outside the hotel areas for food, then that’s no big deal.

I’ve only stayed at the Westin so I can’t comment on the Sheraton but we loved the Westin! Yes, there are families but we never felt that it was too family/kid oriented or that it was cramped. In fact, we thought it was one of the nicest hotels on the strip. We did walk around the grounds of the Sheraton and thought it was much quieter however it also felt much older and less happening. I’m sure either one would be lovely to stay at though.

@Fusco737: We were at The Westin Maui 2 weeks ago. It is large, never felt like there were a lot of people, elevators were fast, concierge was very nice. The problem we had was our room was filthy. The housekeeping manager had a lackadasical attitude about it, yet the housekeeper spent 1 1/2 -2 hours re-cleaning our room. We had a mountain view room, which was also close to the parking lot. We heard car alarms going off all night long. They are also starting a major renovation. Based on my experience at The Westin, I recommend that you stay at The Sheraton.
