I have had my ring for over 10 months, gets banged around a little bit, but nothing bad has happened to it :)
Love your band! I've never seen one like it.
I've been lucky so far. The worst is that I've dropped it like... 2-3 feet onto a semi-hard surface. It has some very light wear on the exposed underside of the band and could use a good steam cleaning to get at thise nooks I can't quite reach but is overall in pretty great shape yet, let's hope it stays that way. Knock on wood!
i lost a diamond 3 months after i got it. the jewelry said it's pretty common with my type of ring. i was really paranoid about losing another one (and i still worry a bit), but it hasn't happened since. it's gotten a fair share of scratches tho :/
I lost a diamond after I knocked my ring fairly hard and it bent (So probably lucky I was wearing it or my finger may have sustained some damage!)
I once thought a small diamond had fallen out of it's setting - but not out of the ring.. turned out it was a tomato seed because someone doesn't remove her ring when she's cooking. The band has also lost some of the whiteness of the white gold, although I actually like the warmer tone it has now.
While getting my hair done for our e-shoot I became frantic when I noticed a diamond was missing. FI and I looked at upside and downside and backside and couldn't figure it out. He got his pocked knife out and started picking at...to my horror! It has a warranty or whatever so I figured if it lost a diamond we can't be scratching it up or they'll blame us. Turns out some of the mascara from my falsies had gotten on it. He had thought there was something stuck on it but I was sure it was missing a small diamond. Phew!!
My SO tried to toss my ring to me and totally misjudged the distance and threw it right into the glass window! Somehow it was fine, probably because the little diamonds are just chips but I was so scared my aquamarine would crack!
I dropped mine out of excitement within the first ten minutes of being engaged. Upon said dropping (which was on soft packed dirt...so this definitely shouldn't have happened), the two carat sapphire popped out, and then later a little diamond. I looked like Charlie Brown when he's bummed out the rest of the weekend. That being said though, it could have fallen out in a much worse place (i.e. the pool, walking around and not noticing), so it definitely could have been worse. Either way, we flew home, spoke to the jeweler (who was crazy embarrassed and gave us money back--we didn't ask for this...I shouldn't be dropping my ring), and everything turned out just fine!
You'll love this. About 2 weeks after getting my engagement ring, I decided to paint my nails. All was going well until the bottle of dark purple nail polish somehow stuck on the brush/top part causing me to pick up the bottle... Reactions set in and I made some sort of weird jerking motion... Long story short I got purple nail polish ALL over my engagement ring, floor and couch!! I have a halo, too so the nail polish was all in between everything. I was HORRIFIED. I used nail polish remover, but I still had to take my ring to my jeweler for a couple more cleanings. It's a hilarious story now, but I was in tears at the time, and my fiance was freaking out, too.
Hm... mine's pretty bad, but it does have a happy ending! Just weeks after I got engaged, I was at my parents house, and on APRIL 1ST I slammed my ring finger hand in a sliding door in my parents kitchen. The ring was squashed against my finger, cutting off my circulation, the center stone as well as about half of the pavé band were gone. I was so in shock that I don't think I even screamed or cried (that came later, when I had to tell my fiancé about it! He was very understanding...) Happy ending: we found EVERY diamond (even the teeny tiny pavé stones!) and the jewelery store we bought it from remade the entire ring! Needless to say, I was a bit paranoid for a few months (still am a bit...)
1. I had to have my former set cut off (not my original wedding ring which sits tucked away and I can't wear due due to allergy/comfort and never had an original "ering") when I smashed my hand and it got very swollen, so rings were cutting of circulation. I now have a "thing" about tight rings and need to size them up to be loose.
2. I developed allergies to my previous rings. This worked out fine as I got some rings that are much more me and my true forever rings.
3. I found a small scratch chip on table of my forever rings and am still not sure how it got there as I am quite careful. I must have knocked it. This again worked out well, as I love my new stone (the scratch drove me too crazy to leave) and the redone bezel work ever more than my old one.
I also lost a melee stone from my previous set but that was a quick fix.
Well, mine is kind of funny and not serious but I will share anyway:
One day at work I happened to glance down at my ring and notice a cloudy, white spot on the stone. I FLIPPED out internally, imagined calling my fiance, calling Moissanite Co. and telling them off, etc.
But luckily I decided to try rinsing it off first ... and the white, cloudy substance came right off. Turns out it was alfredo sauce from my lunch. (face palm).
I lost my center stone last weekend. I was teaching CPR and I think I banged it on the bag of dummies and bent a prong. Lovely. I didn't realize until I was home either and even though we crawled around on the floor of the conference room loooking for it, we never found it. FI contacted the Etsy seller who made the ring and she replaced the diamond and reset it in a more secure setting on my original band.... at no charge. It's a small uncut diamond so wasn't worth much money but it sucked SOOOOOO bad. I love my ring. I was in tears, and FI was surprisingly not all that mad. Just got the replacement one last night though and it is beautiful.
I got to work one morning having to use the bathroom REALLY badly, so I rushed into a stall, and in the struggle of trying to fling my bag off my shoulder, I knocked my left hand, and the ring, up against the tile of the bathroom wall. I gasped, looked at my ring, and saw a chip! NOOOOOO!!!
I went to Jared that day to get the replacement process started. The associate took the ring away, and came back a few minutes later asking me if I could still see the chip. Hmmm....nope! Turns out it wasn't a chip, but a sliver of super glue! Haha! I'd been working on a project the night before with super glue, but I had my ring off. I guess a little bit must have made its way onto the diamond when I handled the project after finishing it.
It was the darndest thing; it really looked and felt like a groove in the diamond! I was soooo relieved. I've been extra careful ever since, both with my arm flailing and use of super glue.
@foreverperpetua: I love, love, love your e-ring! Is it from Brilliant Earth?
I can't think of anything bad that's happened to my e-ring. I cried like a freaking baby over a diamond earring I lost that DH had given me, though. I forgot to take out my earrings before going to volunteer at a wolf sanctuary, and lost it in the dirt in one of the enclosures. I called DH crying and saying I had done something so stupid--he was just happy I hadn't gotten mauled or something.
I brought my ring in for inspection and a cleaning a couple of weeks ago. When we got home, I was looking at it, and noticed a scratch that was most definitely not there before. We took it back in the next night, and the jeweller immediately tried to tell me that it was natural, and wouldn't listen to me when I told her that it had never been there before. It was most likely my pregnancy hormones, but I finally had to go wait outside while DH dealt with her.
It didn't occcur to me until I was outside that why on earth would I wear a ring for TWO years before bringing it in complaining of a scratch that was "natural" and had apparently been there all along? She ended up grudgingly sending it in for a deeper inspection, but made it clear that most likely nothing would be done about it.
Conveniently, I'm in my eighth month of pregnancy, and my ring had just gotten that much too tight to wear comfortably, but I still miss it terribly. Luckily, my wedding band is a smidge bigger, so I can still wear that one.
Hi, I totally understand your fears, I'm a worry wart! Mine is a bit hard to get over my knuckle and I was pulling hard to get it over and it flew out of my hand and landed on the edge of my heating vent on the bathroom floor, it still freaks me out thinking how close it came to going down the vent to possibly be gone for good or without the expense of ripping up the floor boards to get it.
But, my advice is to get ring insurance to help ease your mind. Mine is only $86 a year in monthly payments of $7-$8. Totally worth it, if anything happens to it, stolen, lost, scratched, missing diamonds, etc, they replace and fix it for free with no deductible!! If you have renters/home insurance you can add it to your policy. I feel much more confident now.
I'm a photographer, and one day I was packing my gear up for a wedding when I decided to do a couple shot tests with a new lens I'd just gotten. I took my ring off, had it on the kitchen counter, and was using it as my prop. DH was sitting nearby on his phone talking, so when my phone rang I took it outside and sat on the front porch to talk to my second shooter about the day's upcoming wedding.
I *always* run my thumb over the bottom of my palm/ring finger throughtout the day. It's just a habit making sure my ring is still there. Half way through my converstaion I ran my thumb over the bottom of my ring finger....no ring. I freaked out and went RUNNING inside the house screaming about how my ring was missing. DH jumped up from his recliner because he didn't haer what I'd said, only my screaming, and thought something was seriously wrong.
It wasn't until I calmed down that I realized I'd taken it off not even 3 minutes earlier to photograph, and it was sitting right on the counter where I'd left it to take my phone call.
Duh! Of course DH was all, "It's okay, it's insured".....lol.
I cracked my first diamond in half then had it replaced...then that same ring was lost. So not a funny story :(
I was making marble magnets the other night and somehow my tube of super glued leaked all over my ring finger and onto my ring. My ring was so dirty and glued to my hand ouch. Took alot of time and aceton to remove it.
My e-ring has little diamonds (pave) on the side, two of them fell out at different times. The first time I was heartbroken, but the second time didn't feel too horrible..lol
Worst thing that happened to my current ering was a pave stone falling out.
Mostly I just wanted to comment that the OP's ring is gorgeous :)
@strawbabies: Bahaha this reminds me of that episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians where Kim's ex Kris throws her in the ocean and her diamond earring falls out!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH EVERYONE!! YOUR STORIES HAVE REALLY HELPED!! At least i don´t feel so clumsy now. A little bumping every now and then is just normal wear. i´M GLAD not everyone has had to get a new ring every time something bad happens to their rings. and of course I´m sorry about all you bees who had to replace your stones for good. I can imagine that´s painful in some level!! Maybe you have to be lucky to hit the ring in a spot where you don´t do as much damage??
And also, thank you everyone who commented on my ring!!! y love love love it too. My FI worked really hard to get it for me that´s why i baby it so much.
Strawbabies: yes!! it´s from brilliant earth!!! i´m absolutely in love with my setting too. It´s highly underrated this one. Everywhere i go, someone points out how original and femenine it looks. I think it´s called the blossom ring.....i highly recomend it!!
Thank you all....you´re the best!
My DH and I got engaged in NH and he had the ring shipped up to NH from MA. Well, during transport the ring must have shifted and when he opened the ring box to show his family members it fell out of the ring box, bounced off the stone kitchen floor and into the dog bowl. Luckily, it didn't chip or anything but he hadn't even had it 10 minutes. He hadn't even propsed yet! I heard this story the next morning after he did pop the question lol. I did lose a pave stone a few months after having the ring because I was bringing it to the jewelers too often and the ultrasonic machine is not good to use on those settings so now they just steam it.
the worst things happened before he bought my e-ring: after having it for a few days, I noticed that it had nearly-invisible chips around the edge. I looked it up and learned that it's common for vintage diamonds to have this. it's called a "bearded girdle" (LOL, beards)! well, I got over it quickly because it was considered normal and you couldn't see it.
the next thing that happened is that when appraised, it was worth $1,000 less than what he paid.
so.....I guess the worst thing about this is that my SO was not given enough information when he was shopping around for rings (he didn't even know there was research to be done, otherwise he would have done it), and he feels taken advantage of.
the happy ending: I personally think it's eye-clean and beautiful. I love the design of the setting - and I am really, really picky about jewelry design. so in my mind, he nailed it. I tell him all the time that I love my ring.
My ring finger swelled... on only the bottom area and we could NOT get the swelling to go down. After crying, and worrying for hours, my dad finally had to cut the ring from my finger... but even that was not enough, we still could not get the ring to slide off of my finger! My dad then proceeded to twist the bottom part that was clipped more, so that he could pry the ring off of my finger- resulting in ruined gold and making the diamond settings on the ring loosen... I cried for 2 days after that! But we got it fixed, and had it sized too big so that if i even THINK my finger might swell again i can take it off without worry!

Here it is! I love this ring because my FI picked it out without me... he said i was different so i needed a ring that stated that..lol
My ring got a giant crack in it.. I have no idea how it happened.. Luckily right after we got engaged we added the ring onto our renters insurance. The insurance paid for the new diamond and I got the jeweler to give me a better quality diamond so it shines and sparkles better than it did before. The only bad part is that I had to be without my e ring for about a week while it was being repaired
I lost mine on a plane about a week after getting engaged!
The e-ring was kinda big but I wanted to wear it anyway, so it slipped off my finger while I was snoozing.
For about 20 panick filled minutes I looked and looked (my purse was turned upside down three times, my pockets, even my hair!), I thought about how mad my darling would be and maybe I shouldn't tell him and just replace it? I even considered that the nice (but quiet) older lady next to me had grabbed it from my finger in my sleep.
And then I found it.. under my seat, right under my butt!
I was SO relieved :|
These are so funny and make me feel less bad about my clumsy-ness.
The worst feeling in the world is when i drop my ring on tiles and you can hear the ding of the diamond hitting face down! oh i have done it soooo many times! my stomach drops every time! I also lost one stone from my halo 9 months after getting my enegagement ring. Also i have a beautiful eternity band and i noticed one of the diamonds was looking clowdy so i took it to the jeweller and under the microscope he noticed the entire top of the diamond had been sliced off!!!! who knows how i managed to do that one. All has been fixed and replaced now thank God!
The worst thing that has happened to my ring is that I HAVE HAD IT FOR 13 MONTHS AND THE JEWELER STILL CANNOT SET THE DAMN THING CORRECTLY. The diamond wiggles around in the setting, and the prongs are not straight so the stone sits crooked.
annoying.
@foreverperpetua: LOL I think you may be freaking out just a little bit unnecessarily.
My mother's engagement ring never leaves her finger, unless she is cleaning with heavy chemicals or handling raw meat. She showers with it, sleeps with it, everything.
She has had the exact same engagement ring, with the exact same diamond in it, for about 30 years now. :) And nothing has ever happened to the diamond. No chips, no scratches, no shattering.
I believe inclusions in a diamond cause it to be slightly weaker at those points, so that may be why some diamonds crack after being bumped. It's unlikely to happen to you. <3
i jinxed myself with this thread. i just noticed i lost a diamond again :(
@lilchicana: oh no!!! i hope you´ve had your ring fixed!! i´m sorry you lost a stone!!
you guys thanx so much for posting! i´ve had my ring for a little more than a year now and i can happily admit to being a little less paranoid!!! hahahaha. my ring gets bumped every now and then but i´ve had it checked more than a couple of times and nothing´s happened to neither the setting nor the stone!!
sadly i already accidentally dropped it on the tile floor once but ran straight to the jeweler the very next day and he checked it for me and said everything was still perfectly intact (i didn´t even hurt the prongs) . he said i was definitely not going to harm the ring so easily, and that rings are made to be worn. Diamonds CAN CHIP that´s right, but it´s NOT VERY COMMON. He admitted that sometimes even jewelry stores drop their jewelry pieces onto the floor and 95% of the time everything is fine. (Accidents happen...even brand new items on display cages get bumped)
So for paranoid people like me; a word of advice : STOP WORRYING SO MUCH AND WEAR YOUR BELOVED JEWELRY!! LIFE IS TOO SHORT TO KEEP YOUR RING SAFE IN A BOX. And also: IT IS VERY POSSIBLE (AND LIKELY) FOR YOUR RING TO SURVIVE A FALL.
but please do post more " happy ending " stories, those are awesome to all worry warts!! =)
Such great advice! Ring's are made to be worn! Insurance exists for a reason! I'll add my own story: it's sort of a 2 part. I bumped my setting really hard on an xray table while I was trying to wrangle a difficult patient and knocked the diamond loose. No big deal, it was an easy fix at the jeweler's. The second thing, which kind of sucks is that my skin is reacting to the alloys in my gold, namely the copper, and I'm pitting the inside of my shank. But the man who made my ring offered to completely remake my ring for free, so I'll get an upgrade :)
Worst thing - FI and I was in the family cottage doing some constructing work and I was going to put the first coat of paint on the newly renovated master bedroom. The paint bucket was heavy, so I asked FI to help me pour the paint into the paint tray. He asked me to keep a brush handy to wipe of the excess paint. So there we were, FI set up to pour, me ready with the brush and then he poured... Only thing, a lot more paint came out from the bucket than we had expected. Like half the bucket... And my hand with the ring goat SOAKED in white priming paint. The stuff hardened as soon as it got in contact with water, and it pretty much looked like my hand was made of white plastic. It took a LONG time to get out all the paint from the ring.

i´m so glad I´m back!! i´ve dearly missed looking at your beautiful e-rings. i try to stay away from this page for a couple of weeks so that when i return i have loads of new posts to read and lots of new bling pics to see. Anyway, i was wondering what is the worst thing that has happened to your ring since you got it....?? The thing is, i´ve read several posts of people who say their diamond or sapphire have shattered/ chipped after only a little banging around (which is very normal if you wear your e-ring on a daily basis) and i have to confess this really frightens me. I wore my ring to bed a little while ago and accidentaly bumped it on my wooden headboard during the night and woke up completely worried....(i have a diamond).i louped it for about an hour in the morning and finally decided i hadn´t harmed it at all but still i hate being so paranoid!! i´ve had my ring for 7 months now....when will i stop worrying?? i NEED TO HEAR STORIES WITH HAPPY ENDINGS!! SO.....HAVE YOU GOT ONE FOR ME??
OH AND heres a pic of my ring. A sequel to my previous post....your ring THEN and NOW.
THAT WASTHEN
THIS IS NOW
