When we booked our own church two weeks ago as the wedding (and reception) venue for 2:30 on a Sunday in August 2012, they forgot that from 2:00 to 4:00 another church rents the basement for services… and has a very loud “praise band” most of that time that can be heard clearly and loudly in our ceremony space (I didn’t know this–the church administrator happened to be over there this afternoon and heard it, which reminded him).
The rental for our wedding was $475, complete with sound system, professional kitchen, tables, chairs and tablecloths. Irreplaceable in our locale. Photographer and ceremony musicians (at an equally good bargain) are already booked for that date/time/location.
Invitations have been printed and will arrive in my mailbox tomorrow.
Administrator feels absolutely awful, of course. He called my mother to break the news and told her he would talk to the renting congregation to see if there was anything that could possibly be done. I don’t see how you ask a congregation that has a rental agreement to just not meet that week, or to just not sing that week…? And because the landlord screwed up??? Oh, man…
I really don’t even want to think about it. I’d prefer to live in denial–I’m going to go finalize my vision for decor…

If there is room. why don’t you invite them to the ceremony and to sing a song, they would probably be honored!

@yzfyvr bride: +1 or if they could practice earlier, or a day earlier or something.

@yzfyvr bride: I like that idea! Sounds like it could be promising!

@yzfyvr bride: That’s some awesome thinking (I truly love the ability to think so outside the box like that!), but it’s not going to work in this situation. There literally is not enough room.

Whew! Dodged a bullet. The church went to their renters (the group meeting downstairs) and asked if anything could be done since I already had vendors booked and invitations printed. Since they have a 3-month lead time the renters are willing to move their service to 3:30 on that day!!!!
Oh my goodness, I can’t believe it! What a lovely and gracious thing they doing! It’s so above and beyond–I never would’ve asked and I couldn’t imagine the church administrator having to ask them (he volunteered to ask them to make accomodation since the situation was his fault).
I need to think about how I can thank them… What nice people!!!
